History is the memory of things that have been said and done. —Carl Baker
On the eve of the Spring Festival in 1985, General Xu Shiyou felt some pain in his abdomen, but he insisted until March, when General Xu Shiyou went to Shanghai Huadong Hospital for a physical examination, he found that he was suffering from liver cancer.

At that time, the doctor suggested that he should go to Beijing for treatment, but General Xu Shiyou firmly refused this proposal, saying: I will not go to Beijing, the road in Beijing is too narrow, I can't argue with them. Even though his old subordinates and relatives took turns to persuade him later, Xu Shiyou was reluctant to go to Beijing for treatment.
It was not until early September 1985 that the General Hospital of the Nanjing Military Region began to set up a medical team to arrange targeted treatment for Admiral Xu Shiyou.
However, General Xu Shi's condition has not been optimistic and continues to deteriorate.
Afterwards, the daughter-in-law of General Xu Shiyou recalled: He was in pain, never cried pain, once the pain was severe, said to be injected, before it was too late, and said not to fight, he gritted his teeth and insisted, from the onset of illness to death, I did not hear him hum.
When he was in pain, he didn't let anyone else be around him, no one in the room could have it, and he didn't want others to see him in pain.
Admiral Xu Shiyou could not stay idle all his life, but now he could only lie on the bed and could not move, the doctor told him that he must rest, it is best to rest in bed, but he still insists on walking.
On September 30, 1985, General Xu Shiyou's illness worsened again, when Comrade Yang Shangkun was appointed by the Central Committee to visit.
At that time, General Xu Shiyou could only say a few words in a weak voice, but everyone in the ward could clearly hear the four words he said: I am finished. When the people present heard this, their feelings became more and more sad. At 16:57 on October 22, 1985, a generation of fierce generals Xu Shiyou completed his legendary life in Nanjing, at the age of 80.
