On December 28th, Shanghai oil painter Sun Jiapei and Dutch artist Jan Peter van Opheusden held a double exhibition of paintings in the "Hemeihui" art exhibition hall of The Equatorial Hotel in Shanghai.

Sponsored by the Shanghai Association for International Cultural Exchanges, the exhibition features nearly 60 works under the theme of "Dialogue between Realism and Surrealism", covering series such as "European Water City", "Jiangnan Water Town", "Impressions of Shanghai" and so on.

Born in Shanghai in 1958, Sun Jiapei graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Musashino Academy of Fine Arts in Japan in 1993, and then lived in Japan for many years, and is currently a member of the Shanghai Artists Association and vice chairman of the Japan Modern Artists Alliance, whose works are delicate, rigorous and full of unique air feeling. As a landscape painter, Sun Jiapei is good at excavating from an ordinary corner. In his paintings, air, light and water coexist in harmony, warm and stable as if in a dream.

Born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Jan Peter van Opheusden has focused on artistic creation for decades, forming a unique surrealist style; he was listed by the famous United Services Group in Europe as one of the 18 representative painters of Europe, following Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Fernand Léger and other famous artists.

The works of Jan Peter van Opheusden, deeply influenced by surrealism, are bright in color and strong in contrast, skillfully chiseling figurative expressions and abstract picture scenes, and through the depiction of familiar scenes and objects in life, they are misplaced and deformed, turning the canvas into a stage. In the work, the strange combination between images and images, scenes and scenes, seems innocent and grotesque, but has a sense of eternity that transcends time and space.
