DDR5 memory penetration is at least 3 years away: only 1% this year

Do you use DDR5 memory?

Although Intel's 12th generation Core (Alder Lake) processor has been released for some time, the support for DDR5/PCIe 5.0 that it brings seems to be a bit of a "castle in the air" and rarely useful to consumers.

In fact, this is not an illusion. According to the data given by the statistical agency Omdia, it is expected that the market share of DDR5 memory will be only 1.1% at the end of this year, while DDR4 memory is still more than half, reaching 51.5%.

Omdia estimates that DDR5 memory will really "overwhelm" DDR4 for about 3 years, of which 2023 will achieve share reversal, 2024 will gain a foothold, and the market share is expected to break through 43%.

After the 12th generation of Core, next year's AMD Zen4 Ryzen™ / EPYC and other irons will support DDR5 memory, and this month Amazon's self-developed server processor Graviton 3 also won the DDR5, which is a positive factor for DDR5.

In terms of particle manufacturers, Samsung has introduced EUV lithography to produce DDR5 DRAM chips, and Hynix this month sampled the industry's largest capacity of 24Gb (3GB) single DDR5 DRAM.

So the next more realistic question is when the price of DDR5 memory becomes civilian.
