Samsung released enterprise-class high-performance PCIe 5.0 SSD: transfer speeds up to 13GB/s

Samsung announced that it will introduce a high-performance PCIe 5.0 SSD for enterprise-class server platforms with model PM1743. Samsung said that the new PCIe 5.0 SSD has nearly twice the data transfer speed of the previous generation, while having better energy consumption performance, which will help reduce the operating costs of servers. Samsung is currently working with chipset and server manufacturers to conduct an evaluation to drive the transition to the PCIe 5.0 interface for future servers.

The PM1743 is a high-performance SSD used by a server, based on a self-developed master chip, which combines the PCIe 5.0 interface with the flash memory of Samsung's sixth-generation V-NAND technology. Its sequential read speed is 13 GB/s, sequential write speed is 6.6 GB/s, random read is 2500K IOPS, random write is 250K IOPS, and the performance is 1.7 to 1.9 times that of the previous generation with PCIe 4.0 SSD, which allows server manufacturers using PM1743 to enjoy better performance. At the same time, the PM1743 achieves a transmission efficiency of 608 MB/s per watt, which is about 30% higher than the previous generation, which means that the cost of data center deployment and operation can be reduced, and carbon emissions can be reduced.
