Previously, Samsung introduced the first CXL DRAM prototype with a field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller in May 2021. IT House learned that the new CXL DRAM uses the CXL controller of the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and for the first time encapsulates the 512GB DDR5 DRAM.

Official data shows that the new CXL DRAM has 4 times the memory capacity and one-fifth the system latency compared to the previous Samsung CXL product.

Samsung said that the 512GB CXL DRAM will be Samsung's first memory device to support the PCIe 5.0 interface, using the EDSFF (E3.S) size specifications, especially suitable for the next generation of high-capacity enterprise servers and data centers. Later this month, Samsung will also announce an updated version of its open-source Scalable Memory Development Kit (SMDK).

According to reports, starting from the third quarter of this year, Samsung plans to provide customers and partners with 512GB CXL DRAM samples for joint evaluation and testing. It also plans to prepare for the commercialization of the CXL DRAM product as the next-generation server platform is launched.
