Remembering Suffering: China Built Memory Coordinates at the "Beginning of the War of Resistance."

Shenyang, 24 Dec (Xinhua) -- This year marks the 90th anniversary of the outbreak of the September 18 Incident. As a witness to this major historical event, the site of the Northeast Army's Beidaying in Shenyang was officially opened to the public on the 23rd, telling the story of China's War of Resistance in the form of an exhibition hall.

The exhibition hall of the former site of Beiding presents the original appearance of that year. The courtyard door made of gray bricks is written with the three characters of "Beidaying", and there are still three old barracks with white ocean gray masonry cracks and green brick and iron tiles in the yuanmen, which have been repaired and turned into an exhibition hall, telling the changes and ups and downs here in the past hundred years.

Wang Lei, a citizen of Shenyang, whose home is near the former site of Beiding, heard that the opening of the museum came here early in the morning. "What used to be a few ordinary bungalows has now become an exhibition hall. This is very important for remembering the history of the War of Resistance. Let young people know that this is the place where national disasters have befallen. ”

Founded in 1907, Beidaying covers an area of 4 million square meters in its heyday. 90 years ago, this was the place where the 918 Incident broke out that shocked China and foreign countries.

At about 10:20 p.m. on September 18, 1931, the Japanese army blew up the South Manchuria Railway near Shenyang's Wicker Lake, falsely accusing the Chinese army of its actions, and then brazenly attacked the Northeast Army stationed in the North Camp. As the Northeast Army implemented the Nationalist government's policy of non-resistance, The North Camp and Shenyang City fell overnight.

Fu Wei, director of the Preparatory Office for the Establishment of the Exhibition Hall of the Former Site of The Beidaying, said that the Beidaying is not only the ironclad evidence of Japan's war of aggression against China, but also the memory coordinates of the starting point of China's 14-year War of Resistance.

The study found that on the night of the September 18 Incident, some patriotic officers and soldiers ignored the "order not to resist" and fought back, killing and wounding many Japanese soldiers.

After the September 18 Incident, the Chinese people rose up in the white mountains and black waters, which became the starting point of the Chinese people's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and opened the prelude to the world anti-fascist war. During the 14-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, China won the final victory at the cost of 35 million military and civilian casualties.

The total area of the newly built Beidaying Former Site Exhibition Hall is more than 11,000 square meters. The exhibition hall sets up themes such as "National Disasters Descend, Rise up and resist" and "Anti-Japanese War Marks, City Glory", and display history through more than 400 historical photos, more than 200 historical relics, as well as electronic maps, scene restoration, panoramic sand tables and other modern means.

Zhang Jie, a researcher at the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, said that as a witness to China's suffering history, the Beidaying site will always be a wake-up call to the Chinese people.
