According to foreign media CleanTechnica, the Canadian Auto Parts Association (AMPA) will launch the first locally manufactured pure electric SUV in 2023.
It is reported that this car will be manufactured by a canadian manufacturer, the concept map of the new car has been announced, the whole vehicle uses a minimalist design, sliding doors are a major feature of it, in addition, this car will also support L3 level automatic driving.

The automotive industry originated first in Germany and then flourished in the United States. After World War II, Japan and South Korea and other car companies began to grow and develop, and in the 21st century, Chinese car companies also began to rise, and the automobile market blossomed.
But behind this booming market, most people ignore canada as a country. In fact, Canada also has a huge automobile manufacturing division, the Canadian Auto Parts Association (AMPA), which is made up of hundreds of auto parts suppliers.
The Canadian Association of Auto Parts Manufacturers represents 90% of Canada's auto parts suppliers. Adequate resources mean that its members produce enough parts to build an entire car.
Based on this, AMPA has developed a plan to build a native Pure Electric SUV in Canada, including a power battery. The program, known as Project Arrow, has received financial support from the Canadian government for nearly $4 million (about 25.5 million yuan).
A few days ago, the plan released the concept map of the new car and revealed some key information about the car, and the car thing also summarized the highlights of the new car.
First, the use of sliding door design with L3 level automatic driving
According to foreign media Canada Automotive News, APMA chief technology officer Fraser Dunn revealed that the Project Arrow project is going well, and the first model developed is scheduled to be announced at the CES exhibition in Las Vegas in January 2023.
From the published concept map, the new car is a mid-size SUV, larger than the Tesla Model Y and slightly smaller than the Tesla Model X.
It is worth noting that the concept map shows that this car uses a sliding door design, compared with most of the side doors currently on the market, the new car in a narrow space, passengers will be more convenient to get on and off.

In the future, it is unclear whether this door design will be retained after mass production of this car, but this idea is also worth affirming.
Dunn said that the car will be assembled from 8 giant stamping parts, which are laser welded. The front and rear two-part frames of the car will also feature large magnesium alloy castings. He said the construction was inspired by the Tesla Model Y.
In terms of price, Dunn said the SUV will be priced between $40,000 (about 250,000 yuan) and $60,000 (about 380,000 yuan). In addition, he also revealed that the car's autonomous driving level is at least L3 level.
Second, 100% local production Road testing will begin in 2022
Since the new car is a model that is entirely produced by a Canadian manufacturer, the power battery of this car will also be produced by a Canadian manufacturer.
Unlike other car companies whose power batteries use the power batteries of Asian suppliers CATL, LG Energy Solutions, Panasonic or SK Innovation, Project Arrow uses cylindrical power batteries produced by VoltaXplore. The company is a joint venture between Martinrea International and Montreal-based graphene company NanoXplore.
Technically, Project Arrow will work with the University of Technology of Ontario and its Automotive Center of Excellence in Oshawa.
So far, more than 400 Canadian companies have expressed interest in participating in the Project Arrow project, which is expected to conduct a prototype road test a year later, according to CarScoops.
Dunn believes that many of the designs of SUVs on the market today are unnecessary. He said project arrow's car abandons a lot of redundant design, and the overall design is relatively simple. "You're driving on the road now, and the SUVs you see are all plastic + plastic designs." "Even the structures that are usually hidden behind plastic trim are shown as part of the design," he says. ”

In the interview, when asked if he would fear failure, the CTO confidently said: "We will succeed." ”
Conclusion: The electric vehicle market is full of flowers
Global car electrification, intelligence is the trend of the times, many players have begun to enter the smart car. Canada's first car has not yet been released at this time, which can be said to be a little late, but with its deep supply chain technology background, this car should not disappoint.
For the future of mobility, can Canada create a disruptive and innovative product that will amaze the entire automotive market? Let's wait and see.
