The 2021 Chengdu Biennale "Unconscioned: Art Museum Directors Summit" was held in Rong

On December 19th, the 2021 Chengdu Biennale "Unconsidered Thinking: Summit of Museum Curators" was held in Area A of Chengdu Art Museum (Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum).

The heads of nearly 30 art museums and art institutions provided a cultural activity for professional institutions and audiences engaged in and loved contemporary art exhibitions and works around the world in the dual mode of online and offline, explored the importance and relevance between collection and research, exhibition and audience, and discussed how art museums can promote the healthy development of cultural and artistic ecology, undertake the mission of knowledge production, aesthetic cultivation and cultural inheritance, and build a dialogue platform for enhancing mutual understanding between different civilizations in the world.

Professor Zhang Zikang, Director of CAFA Art Museum, presided over the summit and said in his welcome speech that the global epidemic of the new crown epidemic has brought many challenges to the art museum industry in various countries around the world. To survive, maintain and maintain vitality in the midst of difficulties, museums need to actively deal with the problems that are already at the beginning, and on the other hand, they must carry out broader speculation and experimentation on the future role of museums. While re-examining the basic functions of art museums, we should also adapt to the needs of society, cross disciplinary barriers, and broaden the boundaries of art museums. In view of this, starting from the three basic elements of art museums - collections, exhibitions and the public, through the exchange of disciplinary theories by experts and scholars in the field of art museums, the sharing of past cases, and the prospect of future dynamics, this forum not only provides advanced concepts and effective practices for the development of China's art museums, but more importantly, provides innovative thinking and feasible methods from the Chinese perspective for the common problems of the global art museum industry. Reflect on the present, look forward to the future, and jointly meet the new situation of the art museum industry after the end of the global epidemic.

Liu Xia, deputy secretary-general of the Chengdu Municipal Government, said that there are 160 museums in Chengdu, the number of non-state-owned museums ranks first in the country, and many art museums have also mushroomed in Chengdu, especially the completion of Chengdu Art Museum Area A (Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum) and Chengdu Art Museum Area B (Chengdu Contemporary Art Museum), which has greatly enriched the state of living art and enhanced the height of life aesthetics. The 2021 Chengdu Biennale was held here, presenting a park city art festival that is super-integrated and breaks cultural boundaries, adding new connotations to Tianfu culture. As an important part of the Chengdu Biennale, this summit of art museum directors will effectively promote exchanges and cooperation between art museums and enhance the global vision of Chengdu Art Museum.

He Hongying, Secretary of the Party Branch and Vice President of Chengdu Academy of Painting (Chengdu Art Museum), on behalf of the organizers of the 2021 Chengdu Biennale, delivered a keynote speech on "The Attitude of Chengdu Art Museum - Introduction to the New Museum of Chengdu Art Museum and The Concept of Future Academic Direction".

She said that since its establishment, Chengdu Academy of Painting has always been on the road of inheriting and carrying forward traditional Chinese culture and exploring contemporary art. In 2010, the Chengdu Academy of Fine Arts officially added the "Chengdu Art Museum" and developed into a model of co-office between the academy and the art museum. Having a large-scale and professional art museum, holding higher quality art exhibitions, attracting a larger number of collection resources, triggering more in-depth academic research, and serving a wider audience group are the common vision of generations of art academies and the city. This year, Tianfu Art Park has erected two new large-scale art museums, Chengdu Tianfu Art Museum and Chengdu Contemporary Art Museum, expanding the area of Chengdu Art Museum to nearly 75,000 square meters, further providing momentum for Chengdu's artistic prosperity. Nowadays, Chengdu Art Museum hopes to grow into an excellent urban art museum, not only based on the deep excavation of regional art history, but also to help local artists go global; it is not only a place of production of culture and knowledge, but also an open platform for ideological collision and spiritual exchange; not only a city landmark in physical form, but also an important representative of Chengdu's spiritual image.

It is reported that on December 21, 2021, the Chengdu Biennale will also hold the "Artistic Innovation and Urban Innovation Super Integration - 2021 Chengdu Biennale Curatorial Summit" to make a more comprehensive theoretical exposition of the academic theme and cultural significance of the Chengdu Biennale.
