Although Zhu Yuanzhang had passed away, the country could not be without a monarch for a day, and on June 30, 1398, the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yunjiao, ascended the throne, which was known as the Jianwen Emperor in later generations.
However, Zhu Yunjiao reigned for only four years, and in 1399, the Battle of Jingnan broke out and Zhu Di, the King of Yan, seized power, at which point Zhu Yunjiao ended his career as emperor and disappeared in this turmoil. The reason why Emperor Jianwen disappeared, not died, is because according to historical records, Zhu Di also sent people to find the whereabouts of Emperor Jianwen after seizing power.
From this point of view, it is very likely that Emperor Jianwen escaped in the Battle of Jingnan, and Ming Chengzu did not believe that the body rescued from the fire was Emperor Jianwen, otherwise how could he send people around to look for it. But where Emperor Jianwen was hiding has always been unknown, and the fate of Emperor Jianwen has always been a mystery, not only we are curious, but during the Ming Dynasty, courtiers and people also had deep doubts about it.
Therefore, after 1402, the folk began to circulate all kinds of endings about Emperor Jianwen, some people said that he escaped into the empty gate, and some said that he fled to Nanyang, or became a Taoist monk, there are many opinions, but there is no definite ending. It was not until later, historians who went through the classics, finally found the place where Emperor Jianwen might be hiding, that is, Yunnan.
In addition to this record in the History of the Ming Dynasty, there are also historical records during the Kangxi Dynasty that say that Emperor Jianwen hid in the Lion Mountain in Yunnan for decades. Therefore, from the perspective of historical data, it is very reasonable for Emperor Jianwen to hide in Yunnan. In addition, in 1584, the 11-year-old Wanli Emperor asked his teacher whether Emperor Jianwen was really on the run, and the answer given by the teacher Zhang Juzheng was that Emperor Jianwen had indeed fled to Yunnan and spent the rest of his life as a monk in Lion Mountain.
It can be seen that the Lion Mountain in Yunnan should be the last hiding place of Emperor Jianwen. Lion Mountain is located in Wuding County, Yunnan Province, nearly 3,000 meters above sea level, because Lion Mountain is a famous Buddhist mountain, coupled with the disappearance of Emperor Jianwen is involved, so Lion Mountain has "the first mountain in the southwest", and Lion Mountain about Jianwen Emperor's relics also have a lot, such as Crescent Lake, Long Yin Nunnery, etc., these places are still relatively popular attractions.
In a Tibetan scripture building in Lion Mountain, there are also some spiritual seats enshrined, which are rumored to be the courtiers who sent Emperor Jianwen to flee here, although we cannot distinguish whether the history is true or not, but these things undoubtedly confirm that Emperor Jianwen is hiding in Lion Mountain.
In addition, the local history of Yunnan also records information about Emperor Jianwen, and in the 1990s, a research report appeared on the cover of the People's Daily, which showed that experts determined that Emperor Jianwen eventually hid here after exploring and investigating Lion Mountain.
After all, from all angles, the Lion Rock is hidden, if Emperor Jianwen really escapes into the empty door here, it is not impossible, of course, there are folk rumors that Zhu Di has long known the whereabouts of Emperor Jianwen, but he did not come to arrest him because of his affection. However, in any case, the mystery of Emperor Jianwen's disappearance for many years can be gradually solved in history, which is not easy to come by.
