The 2021 Chinese Native Folk Song Festival opened on the evening of the 17th in Jiuli City, Pengshui Miao Tujia Autonomous County, southeast of Chongqing. Traditional folk songs such as the Miao folk song "Jiao'ayi", the Chuanjiang Trumpet, and the Dong Great Song were all unveiled.

Held every two years, the China Native Folk Song Festival is a cultural event that showcases achievements, exchanges experiences and promotes innovative development in the field of protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage of traditional folk songs and traditional music in China. The 2021 China Native Folk Song Festival is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, with the theme of "Singing a Beautiful New Life", during which the original folk song exhibition, native folk songs into scenic spots, academic seminars, Special Exhibition of Chinese Native Folk Song Documents and other activities will be held.

Wang Chenyang, director of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said in his speech at the opening ceremony that folk songs are a form of music created by the people of all ethnic groups in the country in the practice of production and life and widely circulated in the folk, an important embodiment of the rich emotions and outstanding creativity of the people of all ethnic groups, an important carrier of China's excellent traditional culture, and an important part of intangible cultural heritage.

Wang Chenyang said that among the 1557 national intangible cultural heritage representative projects announced by the State Council, there are 431 traditional music projects, including folk songs, mountain songs, field songs, etc. Among the 3,068 representative inheritors of national intangible cultural heritage identified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, there are 380 representative inheritors of traditional music intangible cultural heritage. "Holding the Chinese Native Folk Song Festival is another important measure to strengthen the protection and inheritance of traditional music."

It is reported that in the early stage of the 2021 China Native Folk Song Festival, a total of 249 folk song exhibition programs were collected from all over the country, with more than 1,300 applicants, and the number of declarations exceeded that of previous sessions. After selection, a total of 184 people from 38 performance teams participated in the on-site performance. The exhibition and performance program involves 37 representative projects of intangible cultural heritage at all levels, including 23 representative projects of intangible cultural heritage at the national level, 42 representative inheritors of representative intangible cultural heritage projects at all levels, and 10 representative inheritors of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage at the national and provincial levels.

Liu Qi, director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism, said in his speech at the opening ceremony that the southeast region of Chongqing is located in the Wuling Mountains, rich in humanities and natural resources, and is a gathering place of national culture, which has produced traditional music national intangible cultural heritage projects such as Nanxi trumpets, Miao folk songs, Youyang folk songs, Xiushan folk songs, and Shizhu Tujia Lao'er tune. It is hoped that through the holding of the 2021 Chinese Native Folk Song Festival, excellent folk song players from all ethnic groups in all regions of the country will show their singing voices here, have wonderful exchanges, and sing the good voice of China together.
