On December 17, Mercedes-Benz EQS ushered in the official listing in China, with a price range of 1.0796 million to 1.5186 million yuan, and a total of 4 models were launched. As The flagship product of Mercedes-Benz in the field of electric vehicles, EQS is based on the new EVA pure electric architecture, adopts a completely different design concept from the previous Mercedes-Benz models, and the technology configuration and power endurance have reached a new height.
In terms of appearance, the EQS is more like a concept car and looks very sci-fi avant-garde. The closed front grille is filled with numerous Mercedes-Benz trident elements to form a star-like visual effect, officially known as the "Dark Night Star Array". Above the grille is a penetrating LED strip that extends to the position of the headlight group on both sides, which is used in many new energy models, but it is the first time for Mercedes-Benz.
The curved roof of the new car is combined with hidden door handles to create a smooth and dynamic body posture, and the wind resistance coefficient of the whole vehicle is controlled at 0.20Cd, which has set a new record for mass production models.
The tail shape of the EQS is mainly rounded and full, equipped with the popular through-type taillights, which further stretches the visual width, and the interior of the lamp cavity is added with a more complex spiral texture, so as to ensure that the taillights have a high degree of recognition after lighting. The bottom is a large area of black skid plate, complemented by transverse chrome trim strips.
If the exterior of EQS is dominated by luxury, its interior creates a strong technological atmosphere. The oversized curved glass content that runs through the console contains three separate OLED displays, and thanks to the new MBUX Hyperscreen system, the physical buttons are virtually invisible throughout the console. In addition, tactile feedback is added to the screen control area to facilitate blind operation.
The co-pilot display is also equipped with a master driver attention monitoring function, which immediately turns off when the driver's attention is distracted. While the driver is driving normally, the co-pilot can activate functions such as seat heating/ventilation/massage, interior lighting, and audio settings via the display.
Although it is an electric vehicle, the rear row of the EQS is still the focus of everyone's attention, and the 3210mm wheelbase allows the new car to have a space performance that is not inferior to the S class, coupled with a wide and thick seat, which is still guaranteed in terms of ride comfort.
In the power part, the EQS 450+ is equipped with a rear-mounted single motor with a maximum power of 245 kW, a peak torque of 568 Nm, and an acceleration time of 6.4 seconds per 100 km; the EQS 580 4MATIC is equipped with a front and rear dual motors, with a comprehensive power of 380 kW, and the acceleration time of 100 km/h is only 4.4 seconds, all matched with a ternary lithium battery pack with a capacity of 111.8 kWh. Under CLTC conditions, the EQS 450+ Pioneer Edition has a range of 849 km, the EQS 450+ Deluxe/Pioneer Special Edition has a range of 813 km, and the EQS 580 4MATIC has a range of 720 km.
As Mercedes-Benz's flagship electric sedan, EQS, whether it is luxury, technology or power endurance, can be regarded as the current ceiling level, but the starting price of 1.0796 million yuan is also doomed to be out of touch with the vast majority of people. Although Mercedes-Benz is a well-deserved luxury brand "Big Brother", as a reference, the price of BMW iX is only 846,900 yuan.
For the current new energy models, the brand premium ability is obviously not as strong as that of fuel vehicles. Even if Mercedes-Benz has a high degree of recognition in the minds of domestic consumers, the author believes that such a price is still not enough to impress consumers to pay for it.
