On October 7, 2021, Mazda announced that it will launch two major product groups, CX-60 and CX-80, as part of the "Plan to Expand the Crossover SUV Product Group after 2022". Among them, the CX-60 will be positioned higher than the CX-5, built with the FR front-facing rear-drive platform, and is expected to be launched in the first half of 2023.
According to previous Japanese media reports, the CX-60 will also launch a more stylish CX-60 Coupe coupe version, but it is unclear whether this coupe SUV will be released simultaneously with the CX-60, or will be launched in the future.
According to the currently known news, the Japanese media boldly predicted some product information of the CX-60, including body size, power parameters and so on. These include a 4620mm long, 2750mm wheelbase, and a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 300 hp, mated to an 8AT manual transmission. In terms of competitors, the CX-60 will compete with Toyota Lingfang, Nissan's new X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander, and the rear-drive version of the CX-60 will also intersect with luxury models such as BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
Judging from the voices of Japanese media and Japanese netizens, it is hoped that Mazda will build the CX-60 into a high-end SUV with sporty handling and dynamic body proportions, and the price is expected to be around 4 million yen.
