"Hong Qiao's Mistake" is from the Southern Dynasty Song Dynasty Song Liu Yiqing's "World Speaking New Language, Ren Birthday".
During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, there was a man named Yin Xian, the character Hongqiao, who first served as an official in Jiankang (present-day Nanjing) and later became the Taishou of Yuzhang (present-day Nanchang). When Yin Hongqiao first went to his post, many people in Jiankang City asked him to bring letters to Yuzhang.
At that time, Yin Hongqiao was embarrassed to refuse in person, but he was unwilling to do such a messenger to pass on letters to people. He behaved in a strange way, and when he passed a place called Shizhu, he threw all the more than a hundred letters that others had entrusted him with him into the river. While throwing them, he also muttered to himself: "These letters, sink to the bottom of the water, sink, float on the surface, I Yin Hongqiao is not a messenger." "Shizhu was in the northwest of present-day Xinjian County, Jiangxi Province, on the west bank of the Ganjiang River, and was the port of Ganshui. Because there are pan stones in the ground, it is called Stone Nagisa. Later, Because Hong Qiao threw many letters into the water here, also known as the Letter of Submission.
Of course, these letters thrown away by Yin Hongqiao could not reach the hands of the recipient. So according to this story, people refer to the unassignable sender as "Hong Qiao" and extend the idiom "Hong Qiao's mistake" to be used as a metaphor for losing a posted letter.
