After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

Recently, the popularity of the costume TV series "Daming Fenghua" has made many viewers have a strong interest in the history of the Ming Dynasty. In the first episode of the play, Zhu Di, the King of Yan, led an army into Nanjing, and the Jianwen Emperor Zhu Yunjiao mysteriously disappeared after a fire in the Forbidden City. These things have all existed in history, but everyone may not have paid attention to one thing, that is, after Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

To answer the question raised above, let's start with Emperor Jianwen's family lineage. Emperor Jianwen was the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and he was the second son of Zhu Biao, the grandson of Zhu Yuanzhang, the Ming Emperor and the Prince of Yiwen. Zhu Biao had six sons and four daughters, namely: the eldest son Zhu Xiongying, the second son Zhu Yunjiao, the third son Zhu Yunxi, the fourth son Zhu Yunxi, the fifth son Zhu Yunxi, the sixth son unnamed (early death), the eldest daughter Princess Jiangdu, the second daughter Yilun County Lord, the third daughter unknown, and the fourth daughter Nanping County Lord.

Among these brothers and sisters of Emperor Jianwen, the eldest and the sixth died prematurely, so there was nothing to say. Emperor Jianwen himself disappeared after Zhu Di seized the throne and has been missing ever since. In "The Style of Daming", Emperor Jianwen and Zhu Di later meet their uncles and nephews, which is actually a fictional plot that does not exist in real history.

After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

The third elder Zhu Yunxi was crowned King of Wu in the first year of Jianwen (1399). Zhu Di claimed that the empress dowager was demoted to the title of King of Guangze, and was soon deposed as a Shuren and imprisoned in the Fengyang Imperial Prison, where he died violently around 1417 at the age of 39.

The ending of the fourth elder Zhu Yunxi is similar to that of the third elder. In the first year of Jianwen (1399), he was crowned king of Heng. Zhu Di claimed that the empress dowager was demoted to the title of King of Huai'en, and was soon deposed as a Shuren and imprisoned in the Fengyang Imperial Prison, where he died violently around 1414 at the age of 29.

Zhu Yunxi was crowned King of Xu in the first year of Jianwen (1399). Zhu Di claimed that the empress dowager was demoted to the title of King of Ouning, and lived with his birth mother Lü Shi in the mausoleum of Zhu Biao, the prince of Yiwen. In 1407, an inexplicable fire suddenly broke out in the mausoleum of Prince Yiwen, and Zhu Yunxi was burned to death in the fire at the age of 16.

Emperor Jianwen's three living brothers all died unnaturally, and to say that Zhu Di did not blackmail them, I am afraid that only a three-year-old child would believe it. However, compared with these three brothers, the few sisters of Emperor Jianwen had a much better ending. Princess Jiangdu was demoted to the title of county lord in the early years of Yongle and later died of melancholy; the lord of Yilun County married in the fifteenth year of Yongle (1416) and died in the year of death unknown; the lord of Nanping County died in the tenth year of Yongle (1412).

After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

Emperor Jianwen's wife, Empress Ma, was the daughter of Ma Quan, the Shaoqing of Guanglu. In the twenty-eighth year of Hongwu (1395), she married Emperor Jianwen, who was still the emperor's grandson at the time, and was crowned as the emperor's concubine, and in the first year of Jianwen (1399), she was crowned empress. In the fourth year of Jianwen (1402), after Zhu Di led an army to attack the city of Nanjing, Empress Ma set herself on fire in the palace and died at the age of 25.

Emperor Jianwen had two sons, Empress Ma. The eldest son, Zhu Wenkui, was made crown prince in the first year of Jianwen (1399). After Zhu Di invaded Nanjing, Zhu Wenkui disappeared along with Emperor Jianwen. At that time, several charred remains were found in the ruins after the fire, and some people believe that these remains were Emperor Jianwen, Empress Ma, and Crown Prince Zhu Wenkui.

After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

Emperor Jianwen's second son, Zhu Wengui, was born in 1401, and when Zhu Di invaded Nanjing, Zhu Wengui had just turned two years old. However, Zhu Di did not easily let go of this little doll who could not even stand steadily. From 1402 onwards, Zhu Wengui was imprisoned in Fengyang for a long time, and he no longer deserved his own name, and was ordered by Zhu Di to change to "JianshuRen".

Fifty-five years later, Emperor Mingyingzong (Zhu Di's great-grandson) regained the throne from Emperor Ming through the "Change of The Gate". Ming Yingzong remembered that his life in seclusion had been really difficult, so he thought of the "Jianshu people" who had been imprisoned in Fengyang since childhood. So Emperor Mingying ordered the restoration of the freedom of the "Jianshu people", but Zhu Wengui, who had seen the light of day again, was no longer able to distinguish between cattle and horses at this time. Less than a few months after his release, Zhu Wengui died at the age of fifty-seven.

After Emperor Jianwen disappeared, where did his family go? How did they end up?

It is worth mentioning that there is a saying that Emperor Jianwen also had three sons, named Zhu Jin, Rang Luan, and Rang Shan. But reading the history books at night and thinking that this is just a folk history, it is not enough to believe. Because the descendants of the Zhu family, regardless of concubines, have a strict ranking of characters, and the third word of the name is arranged according to the order of the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth. Zhu Biao's lineage is written: "Yunwen obeys the ancestral precepts, and the Qinwu Emperor wins." By the way, it is advisable to meet auspicious, and the teacher is good and good at using Sheng. The Jianwen Emperor Zhu Yunjiao was a member of the "Yun" character, and the third character," "炆," was the five elements of fire. His sons Zhu Wenkui and Zhu Wengui are "Wen" characters, and the third character "Kui" and "Gui" are the five elements of the territory. What are the names Zhu Jin, Rang Luan, and Rang Shan? Completely out of reach. As for whether there are any descendants of Emperor Jianwen in the first line, it is really just an unknown, because there is no evidence to prove where Emperor Jianwen went!
