FIA: Will analyse the F1 final battle safety car incident and refine the race

The statement reads as follows:

The 2021 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has caused a huge response in F1, as well as in the motor sports industry and the public. In any case, the FIA's primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of all participants and the impartiality of the sport.

The use of safety cars after the Latifi accident and the related communication between the F1 team and the FIA management team have clearly caused widespread misunderstanding. And judging by the responses of F1 teams, drivers and fans, the controversy is damaging the image of the championship, and it is also affecting the due celebration of Verstappen, who won the first driver's world championship, and Mercedes, who won the eighth constructors' world championship.

Based on a series of incident reports following lap 53 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the FIA President proposed to the World Council of Motor Sport that detailed analysis and clarification would be carried out with all parties involved to promote continuous improvement of the event.

The incident will be discussed and dealt with with all teams, drivers in order to learn from it, and the current rules will be explained to the participants, the media and fans of the race, defending the competitiveness of the sport while protecting the safety of drivers and officials. F1 and other FIA venue events will benefit from this discussion.

In view of the information submitted and the extensive discussion, the World Sport Council decided to unanimously agree to the proposal of the FIA President. The FIA will promote the management of the F1 event as much as possible and proposes that the F1 Committee delegate research and recommendations to the Sport Advisory Committee, while any meaningful feedback and conclusions on this event will be published before the 2022 season with the support of the F1 drivers.
