Webb felt Russell was ready to fight Hamilton

Former F1 driver and now F1 commentator Mark Webb said he believed new to mercedes, George Russell, was ready to fight Lewis Hamilton.

Weber is no stranger to playing alongside his world champion teammates, and in 2010-2013 Vettel was Vettel's teammate during his fourth consecutive Red Bull title. The Australian believes Russell's experience in F1 over the past three seasons will be a key factor in ensuring he is ahead of the curve against Hamilton.

Webb said: "It was very challenging against Lewis, but George now has almost 50 F1 games of experience, so he is ready. ”

Asked about what Russell should expect when racing for Mercedes, Webb added: "George should know that with the expectation of being able to occupy the front row through qualifying and strive for the best in the main race, there will be a huge change in the intensity of the race. ”

Webb also shared his thoughts on plans to include more sprint qualifying in F1 this season's schedule and compared it to tennis.

"In sprints, we need to make sure fans understand what they're looking at and what F1 wants to achieve, it's not always easy," he said. Although longer tournaments can sometimes get more boring, like tennis, all the top players want to win a Grand Slam, and the master of the game will find a way to win in a five-set game. So we have to be careful with F1 sprints so that they don't become a lottery ticket that reduces the prestige of the Grand Prix. ”

The 2022 F1 season will take place in Bahrain from 18 to 20 March.
