George Russell said he had been intoxicated with achieving new milestones, but was "never satisfied" until he achieved his ultimate goal of becoming a world champion.

Russell: Never be satisfied until you become a world champion

An improved Williams car looking to be able to challenge Q2 and Q3 more often in the 2021 season. After two and a half seasons in F1, he finally scored his first point for the team in Hungary, for which he shed tears. In Spa's qualifying, he made a stunning lap in the rain, making his first podium as P2 in the main race.

Russell has previously said he didn't feel any extra pressure after moving into Mercedes and every milestone he created wouldn't satisfy him unless he won the world championship.

Russell said in an interview: "Obviously, I want to be a winner, I want to be a world champion, we've been struggling in the backcourt, 2020 is a stronger year but not enough for us, 2021 is a stronger year but never enough. We celebrated a lot when I first got into Q2, and when you did it for the second and third time, you'd want to get into Q3. When you go into Q3, we celebrate a lot, we're excited, and after that, you'll want to go into Q3 often. Before you become a world champion, this is far from enough. ”

Russell, who made significant strides during his time at Williams, said he was "grateful" for gaining experience at Williams and hopes to use that experience during his 2022 championship season. While Russell added that he would certainly prefer to run surprisingly well in Williams more often, those results wouldn't have much of an impact on his big plans.

He said: "I'm still growing and if I were P10 I'm still not a world champion, so I'm not overly excited and I'm more grateful for my growth in the team, which prepares me as much as I can to achieve my big goals. ”
