Russell and Verstappen are the reasons Alonso turns on the TV

Fernando Alonso said that during his farewell to F1, Max Verstappen and George Russell were the reasons for him to tune in for F1 matches.

At the end of the 2018 season, Alonso left F1 for a while, he made a comeback in the Alpine Alps in 2021, but in the intervening years, he was not idle, and the Spaniards competed in the World Endurance Championship, the Indy 500 and the Dakar Rally. Alonso does have a reason to continue watching F1 on TV, in fact there are two reasons, they are Russell and Verstappen.

The 40-year-old is not shy about expressing how highly he thinks of Russell, who became a Mercedes driver in 2022 and Verstappen's performances intrigued him.

On F1's official website, Alonso said in an interview: "At the beginning of the season, even before the start of the race, I said in Bahrain that when I was watching TV at home, the drivers who impressed me the most were George (Russell) in Williams and Max (Verstappen) at Red Bull, and these two guys were the reasons I turned on the TV..."

Daniel Ricciardo then interrupted the interview, desperate to get a message about Renault, who had created two consecutive titles in Renault and Ricciardo who had been on the podium twice in Renault's races.

Alonso laughed and said, "And Daniel, because he's in Renault, I was interested in that car last year. But no, I mean, they gave me something extra and that's why I watched TV. ”
