The Eighth Route Army has always been the main force in the North China Battlefield against the Japanese Army, and it is also an important force in the Asian Battlefield against the Japanese Army. The generals of the Eighth Route Army were also able to fight a good battle, resisted resolutely, and were unprecedented opponents of the Japanese army. One of the commanders of the Eighth Route Army in Hunan had been attacking the Japanese army outside Yanmen Pass for a long time, and almost became the nemesis of the Japanese army in that area.
The leader of the regiment was song Shilun, a native of Zhuzhou, Hunan. At the age of 19, he enrolled in the 5th phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, and at the age of 22, he led guerrilla warfare in his hometown, specializing in fighting local landlord bullies. After the Red Army, he successively served as the principal of the Red Army school, the division commander, the chief of staff of the army, and participated in the famous 25,000-mile long march. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he served as the commander of the 716th Regiment of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army.
At the end of 1937, after the Japanese invaded and occupied most of Shanxi, they frantically plundered local resources and wantonly oppressed the Chinese people. The Eighth Route Army bravely faced the battle and fully deployed in the rear of the Japanese army. Song Shilun was ordered by his superiors to lead his troops to the outside of Yanmen Pass to participate in the local war against Japan.
The troops led by Song Shilun were based on 1 battalion of the Eighth Route Army, called the "Yanbei Detachment", with a total of less than 1,000 people, and their weapons were also very rudimentary, but their fighting spirit was very strong. Song Shilun commanded troops to attack everywhere, destroying roads, punishing traitors, ambushing Japanese transport troops, and attacking Japanese material bases, making the Japanese army miserable.
The "Yanbei Detachment" soon became famous, and the Japanese army hated them to the bone, and gathered a large number of people and horses to launch a large-scale "encirclement and suppression." Song Shilun led his troops to erratic and drill gaps everywhere, sometimes ambushing small groups of Japanese troops, sometimes inserting into the rear of the Japanese army to make a big fuss. The Japanese army circled between the lofty mountains and mountains outside yanmen pass, and could not find the yanbei detachment, but its own men and horses were decreasing day by day. When the Japanese army was discouraged and ready to collect troops, the Song Shilun suddenly appeared, occupied favorable terrain, and dragged the Japanese army to fight for days and nights, beating the Japanese army to the point of loss and desertion.
In less than half a year, Song Shilun commanded troops to fight against Japan more than 100 times, eliminating more than 3,000 Japanese troops, while the Yanbei detachment also grew rapidly to more than 2,000 people, and most of the weapons were replaced by the Japanese army's "three eight" big cover. The Japanese troops outside the Yanmen Pass were beaten to the point of loss, but they had no choice but to swallow the heat and hide at home.
At the end of 1950, New China had been established, and Japan had already surrendered, but the United States, under the banner of the "United Nations," brazenly sent troops to Korea, seriously threatening the security of New China. Song Shilun was ordered by the central general to lead China's elite 9th Corps into the DPRK and launched a fierce attack on the US army in the icy Chosin Lake area of North Korea, causing the US first division to flee in a hurry from the undefeated Land War Division and completely annihilating the "Polar Bear Regiment" that the United States was proud of.
The Battle of Chosin Lake was a classic example of China's defeat of the US army with absolute inferiority, and the excellent command of Song Shilun and the brave and fearless fighting spirit of the volunteer army left an unforgettable memory for the First Marine Division. Decades later, the surviving veterans of the First Marine Division had palpitations when they talked about the place at Chosin Lake.
