This life of a person may be the same. But some people are not contentious and have no desires; while others are ambitious and want to create a career; just like Tan Yanmin and Chiang Kai-shek.
However, when it comes to Chiang Kai-shek, everyone knows that he is a generation of figures in China's modern history, but what everyone does not know is that behind the ambitious Chiang Kai-shek, it is Tan Yanmin who twice rejected Sun Yat-sen.
Only then will Chiang Kai-shek become the principal of the Whampoa Military Academy, marry the beautiful Song Meiling, and have a strong background influence of the Song family. With Tan Yanmin's lack of ambition and bent on retiring to the jianghu, Chiang Kai-shek had the opportunity to leap to become a Kuomintang boss.
He joined the Kuomintang and refused to be the principal
Speaking of this hermit who lets the sage, Tan Yanmin, he was once a talented man who read poetry and books.
Born in 1880, although his ancestral home is a native of Chaling, Hunan, he grew up in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and his father Tan Zhonglin was a jinshi during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty and also served as the governor of Liangguang.
It is precisely because of being born in such a family that the young Tan Yanmin was awarded the title of Champion in a high school in the Imperial Examination, but because of Empress Dowager Cixi's black-box operation, she had the strength of the Yuan, but did not have the honor of the Yuan.
However, Tan Yanmin, who was not in contention, did not care, and after Zhongju worked in the Hanlin Academy for a while, because he still did not like the deceit in the official field, he returned to his hometown in Hunan and opened a school in Hunan, at that time, because Tan Yanmin's calligraphy and literary talent were first-class, he naturally ranked the name of the four major calligraphers of the Republic of China.
Subsequently, Tan Yanmin's fame and talent were recognized and concerned by the local military circles in Hunan, and he was recommended as the governor of Hunan by many military executives in the Wuchang Uprising in 1911, and was formally appointed by the Beiyang government the following year.
After all, Tan Yanmin, who had always been secretly concerned about the revolution and the people's livelihood, had a vision, and Tan Yanmin knew that the old warlords would have no prospects, so he joined the Kuomintang led by Sun Yat-sen.
During this period, Tan Yanmin published the "Plea for Yuan Payment", which was suppressed by Yuan Shikai but also received help and appreciation from Sun Yat-sen. Later, through the direct introduction and promotion of Sun Yat-sen, he also held a number of positions within the Kuomintang.
In the early days, Tan Yanmin was very attentive to the work of these positions, and with his own talent and ability, all the work was done well and he was very assertive.
This act was seen by Sun Yat-sen, who admired Tan Yanmin more and more, thinking that Tan Yanmin had run schools and engaged in education before joining the Kuomintang, so he handed over the Whampoa Military Academy to Tan Yanmin's management, and even told Tan Yanmin as soon as the time was ripe to let him serve as the principal of the Whampoa Military Academy.
However, Tan Yanmin, who has always had the temperament of a literati and inker, did not have any ambitions, nor did he want to be a principal, so he declined this position at the first time.
Keep your promises and refuse to marry
Because of Tan Yanmin's refusal, Sun Yat-sen has always felt indebted, but as an elder, he hopes to make up for it by helping to solve Tan Yanmin's life events. At this time, he also deliberately introduced Song Meiling to him, and at that time, Tan Yanmin was indeed in line with the heroic image in Song Meiling's heart. Unexpectedly, Tan Yanmin once again rejected Sun Yat-sen.
And this time the reason was "I will keep my promise to my deceased wife that she will not marry a second wife." On this point, some people think that Tan Yanmin is just another excuse to reject Sun Yat-sen; but some people think that tan Yanmin's deceased wife and mother's life are combined.
It is believed that Tan Yanmin is indeed because his mother was once a concubine, and after his death, the clan did not allow his mother to come out of the main entrance. Yan Min made a big fuss after knowing it, and finally got a little dignity.
And these things that happened after his mother's death really made Yan Min extremely dissatisfied with the bad habits of three wives and four concubines in the old society. The successive misfortunes also include the death of his beloved wife, which also makes Yan Min have an indelible shadow of his feelings in this regard, and he is determined to have only one wife in his life and resolutely resist bad habits.
The two refusals disappointed Sun Yat-sen a little, which also made Chiang Kai-shek right in the middle when Sun Yat-sen was most helpless and needed talents the most, and from then on Chiang Kai-shek's ambitions and ambitions had a place to develop.
Without ambition, abdicate and give way
In 1926, Chiang Kai-shek launched the Zhongshan Incident, at which time Wang Jingwei was forced to resign, and Tan Yanmin temporarily assumed the position of chairman of the National Government.
However, at that time, Tan Yanmin only had a position and no great power, and he could not control the situation at that time. Therefore, Tan Yanmin resigned as chairman and handed over the position to Hu Hanmin.
However, in the Nanchang Uprising, Hu Hanmin could not mobilize the army, and it can be said that Hu Hanmin was also a shell. In the end, Tan Yanmin found Chiang Kai-shek, hoping to get Chiang Kai-shek's help and guidance. During this period, Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling were also involved.
In 1928, Chiang Kai-shek became the chairman of the Military Commission and the Chairman of the Central Political Committee of the Nationalist Government as he wished, and gradually became the head of Tan Yanmin. Of course, Tan Yanmin knew from the beginning when he found Chiang Kai-shek that there would be such a situation, so he naturally retreated.
However, how could a man as scheming and suspicious as Chiang Kai-shek easily believe that Tan Yanmin had entrusted heavy power to him just to retire?
In private, he has also been sending people to spy on Tan Yanmin, and tan Yanmin, who retired, does devote his energy to the study of food every day.
Every day, I went to the mountains and rivers, ate wherever I went, and began to record and study the cuisines of various places, especially in Hunan cuisine, which has made great achievements, and summarized the knife work, material selection, ingredients, cooking techniques, etc. of most dishes of Hunan cuisine. It is also known as the "source of Hunan cuisine", which preserves and continues many ancient methods in Hunan cuisine.
It is precisely because of this that Chiang Kai-shek also gradually believed that Tan Yanmin's concession was sincere, and also let down his guard against it, and then Tan Yanmin, when he died, also entrusted his own young daughter to Chiang Kai-shek, and Chiang Kai-shek also protected Tan Yanmin's young daughter for a peaceful life.
epilogue
Turning over China's modern history, Tan Yanmin is indeed an important figure in promoting the new revolution and promoting the development of the Kuomintang.
It is also true that many people feel sorry for Tan Yanmin's concession, if Tan Yanmin had a little ambition at that time, it might not be Chiang Kai-shek who changed history.
Unfortunately, people have their own aspirations, which just shows that in that era of flames and smoke, war and fire, it is not really necessary to become a soldier, a generation of military experts, and a chairman to save the people of Li Min from water and fire.
If you can, you can also find a pure land in the era of disturbances, stay away from disturbances, pay silently, and do your best to be ashamed.
