Zbignev Victor, a Polish political science professor and expert on the China issue, said in an exclusive interview with a Xinhua news agency reporter a few days ago that maintaining the hegemonic status of the United States is the real motive for the US Government to convene the so-called "democracy summit." "It is wrong for the United States to create the concept of a so-called 'democratic summit.'" Victor told reporters in the southwestern Polish city of Wroclaw.

Victor, who taught at the University of Wrocław in Poland, argues that the United States' quest for hegemony is unacceptable to peace-loving nations that want to act in accordance with their own values. "This can lead to unnecessary conflicts in the world, as evidenced by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan." He said.

He stressed that democracy was a complex concept. After years of development, including China's democratic system, there are many forms of democracy.
