If you go to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, you must go to the Yue Fei Temple to see. Yue Fei Temple is located in the southern foothills of Qixialing in Hangzhou, in the northwest corner of the West Lake, where the sculpture of Yue Fei, a famous general and national hero of the Southern Song Dynasty, stands quietly in the temple.
In the 14th year of jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1221), twenty-one years after Yue Fei's murder, Emperor Xiaozong of Song finally rehabilitated zhaoxue for him, posthumously honored him as Wu Mu, and later posthumously honored Wu Zhong, and was crowned king of E, which buried Yue Fei's body under the Qixia Ridge in the West Lake, and held a beautiful funeral, and built a temple for posterity to worship.
In front of the Yue Temple, there was a row of bronze statues kneeling, there were four in all, and the people thought that these were the real murderers of Yue Fei, so they erected them in front of the temple gate and were scolded for a lifetime.
Among them, two murderers must be very familiar to everyone, that is, Qin Ju and his wife, who, as the main "negotiators" faction of the imperial court at that time, vigorously opposed the resistance to Jin, and finally killed Yue Fei's father and son on the charge of "false accusations". Hated by the common people.
In 1513 AD, the then Hangzhou commander came to Yue Fei's tomb to worship, at this time the Ming Dynasty had just been established, the temple was already dilapidated, Li Long had long heard of Yue Fei's prestige, had always worshipped, and hurriedly ordered people to renovate it and offer incense.
Thinking of those traitors who murdered Yue Fei, Li Long became more and more angry in his heart, and in order to let the people who came to worship remember Yue Fei's murderer, he set up 3 bronze statues in front of the temple, namely Qin Ju and his wife and Wan Qianjie.
In 1141, Wan Qianbi defected to Li Qin ju and served as the chief judge of Yue Fei's case, and officially informed Yue Fei of his death sentence, so the first three bronze statues to stand in front of Yue Fei's temple were. Hundreds of years passed, many people came to worship, and many hated adulterers smashed the three kneeling bronze statues to pieces.
It lasted until the Wanli years, according to the deputy envoy Fan Lai one day patrolled to the Yue Wang Temple, saw three broken bronze statues, determined to withdraw the three and rebuild, Fan Lai thought about it, he felt that Zhang Jun and Yue Fei were killed at that time had a particularly important relationship.
Although Zhang Jun, along with Yue Fei, was known as one of the "Four Generals of Zhongxing" in the Southern Song Dynasty, and had also played a very great contribution to the resistance to Jin before, he later received bribes from Qin Juniper and was willing to help Qin Juniper to make perjury, and was the promoter of Yue Fei's case, so Fan Lai decided to add him and place a total of four statues kneeling in front of Yue Fei's tomb.
However, the inspector of Hangzhou, Ru Xunlai, came to take up his post, Fan Lai was transferred to other places, and Ru Xunlai also went to the Yue Temple, and he suddenly thought that although Zhang Jun was later guilty, he was also a person who was posthumously crowned king after his death, and it was not appropriate to kneel on the ground, and Qin Juniper's wife Wang Shi was also a female Taoist family, and he was not worthy of kneeling in front of Yue Fei's tomb.
Therefore, he issued an order to remove the bronze statues of Zhang Jun and Wang Shi. Kneeling in front of Yue Fei's tomb, it turned into two people, Wan Qianbi and Qin Ju.
Ye Shi records that later Fan Lai revisited the old place again, and was very angry when he saw that the bronze statues were missing, so he privately asked people to add two to enter, so the portraits in front of Yue Fei's tomb were restored to four again.
At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, Yue Fei's tomb was still enshrined and incense by the people, and people added Luo Ruji, who has no record in the main history, and it is said that he wrote Yue Fei's false accusation letter. The bronze statue became five.
During the Yongzheng period, the governor Li Wei thought that Luo Ruji was a wild historical figure and was not very rigorous, so he took it upon himself to remove this person. The remaining Qin Jun, Wang Shi and Wan Qianbi are bronze statues, that is, the four people we see in front of Yue Fei's tomb today.
Qin Juniper can be said to be worthy of being scolded, after Qin Juniper, when the people named their children, the word "Juniper" was basically unused.
