The power of example is infinite. In order to break the superstition, Cai Chang took the initiative to go to the field to participate in agricultural production. Under her leadership, the Soviet district set off a climax of women ploughing the fields and promoted the development of agricultural production.
Cai Chang is a pioneer and outstanding leader of the Chinese women's movement, and a close comrade-in-arms and wife of Comrade Li Fuchun. The Revival of the Soviet Union still tells the story that she led women to break the evil customs and learn the development and production of ploughs and rakes.
At the end of December 1931, during the cold winter season, Cai Chang and Li Fuchun arrived from Ruijin to Niukengtang in Xingguo County, the seat of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. Li Fuchun was then the secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Cai Chang was the head of the Women's Department of the Provincial Party Committee. They had just arrived in Xingguo, just as the first congress of women workers and peasants in Xingguo was held at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall. The meeting was presided over by He Chang, secretary of the county party committee, and more than 300 people attended the meeting. Cai Chang kurabe rode to the meeting and made a speech at the meeting.
In light of the fact that all the young and strong men in the Soviet area had become Red Army soldiers, Cai Chang called on the women of the Soviet union to carry forward the role of half the sky and undertake various revolutionary tasks in the rear. She said: "Women must take over from the class of male comrades, and female comrades must strive to be able to do whatever male comrades can do." From mobilizing her husband and son to join the army to organizing laundry teams, consolation teams, and ambulance teams, from organizing farming teams to subscribing to public bonds, from breaking superstitions to enforcing marriage laws, from "clearing the wilderness of the solid wall" to organizing the White Sergeant Committee, and so on. During the three-day meeting, she and the women's representatives talked cordially and laughed.
Usually, whether in the provincial party committee or in the county party committee, she always gathered the Women Cadres of Xingguo, Such as Wei Xiuying, Huang Fagui, Wan Xiang, and Xie Peilan, to talk about their daily routines and study problems. She always said to everyone kindly: "Don't call me my official title, call me Cai Chang, or call me Sister Cai, I'm older than you!" And he said, "When you come to me, you will say whatever you want." I like to listen to you very much, and when I arrive in Xingguo, I will worship you as a gentleman and teach me to understand the old words of Xingguo. Otherwise, I really don't understand your language!"
Sometimes, between small talk, she took out a photo of herself cutting the abdomen and giving birth to a child for everyone to see, and also exposed her knife marks for the sisters to see. Everyone saw that this Cai Chang, who had stayed in the West, was so frank, sincere, and easy-going, and they were happy to talk to her and affectionately called her "Sister Cai".
Spring ploughing has arrived. At that time, eighty or ninety percent of the young and strong men in the Soviet area joined the Red Army and went to the front, and the fields were in danger of being deserted. What to do? Cai Chang vigorously called on women to go to the fields and take up the burden of production. Women in Jiangxi have always been industrious and do a lot of farm work. But when it comes to ploughing and rake fields, women shrink back. It turns out that a superstitious saying prevailed in local history: "Women and women learn to plough, hens learn to cry, and if they violate heavenly reason, they will be struck by lightning." This statement is a great constraint and threat to women's spirits, and no woman in the countryside has ever dared to touch the plow rake. In order to break away from superstitions and cults and propagate scientific ideas, Cai Chang took the lead in pulling up his pants and feet to the field, worshiping the old farmer as a teacher, and learning to plough and rake the field. After learning the operation, she gathered the women's representatives of each township to train in batches and teach techniques in the fields. They were originally natives of the countryside, and soon learned to plough and rake fields. Return to the communes and train women in the same way. At that time, Li Yuying, the leader of the women's ploughing field in Nagaoka Township, also became a famous female plough rake expert in the Soviet district, and won the commendation of the central government of the Soviet Union (two large buffaloes and a blue skirt). Because Cai Chang broke away from evil customs and took the lead in going down to the fields, the whole county and even the whole province quickly formed a climax of women ploughing the fields and rakes, sowing seeds and planting seedlings in a timely manner, and achieving a bumper harvest that year, and not a single woman was "beaten by thunder."
With their own practice, women in the Soviet Union broke down superstitions, developed production, and made positive contributions to the anti-"encirclement and suppression" war in the Soviet union. After the founding of New China, many women cadres always mentioned the education and help of Sister Cai in those years, saying: "Without Sister Cai's personal practice and boldly breaking bad habits, where are our women today?"
