"Orderly chaos": Amazon responds to "Black Friday" in Spain

author:Reference message

Spain's "Le Monde" recently reported that on This year's "Black Friday", Amazon's logistics center in Madrid's San Fernando de Henares is fully open to cope with the shopping tide.

It was one of the strongest shopping weeks of the year, and the center's managing director, Nacho Alonso, was responsible for overseeing everything to function properly. Last year, sales of SMEs on Black Friday and Cyber Monday increased by 60% through Amazon's platform.

Alonso met with the staff and greeted them. Lorena Anka is one of them, looking for items that consumers buy online. Surprisingly, the shelves in the FBA fulfillment center were chaotic.

There are no products listed here by category or alphabetical order, and it's hard not to be in a state of collapse if you wander through this huge warehouse of 77,000 square meters (the size of 11 football fields).

Alonso called the situation "orderly chaos" though, because while it didn't look like it, they knew where everything was. In fact, putting similar items on the same shelf is counterproductive because it's easier to go wrong.

"We have a team that picks the goods. If we mix everything together, our employees are more likely to get everything they want at the same time than one area to place books and another area to place balls. Alonso said. He showed reporters one by one the four floors of the logistics center where 2,700 employees are currently working.

At Amazon, everything is well thought out, and once you order online, the company's software starts creating a route designed specifically for the product to get to its destination as quickly as possible. To that end, the tech giant has created an ever-extending capillary network to get as close to consumers as possible.

The company has 4 large logistics warehouses in Spain, 2 in Illeskas (Toledo), one in Esports de Henares and one in San Fernando. In addition, it has a smaller distribution center in Getafe, where goods from the above 4 centres arrive and are redistributed at 8 distribution stations in Cosrada, Leganes, Alcobendas, Getafe, Madrid and Mostoles.

In addition, Amazon recently opened another logistics center in Koslada designed to speed up delivery to Prime member customers, as well as two other Amazon Fresh fresh supermarkets in Coslada and Legaspi. (Compilation/Han Chao)
