In the section of the Yangtze River below Gezhouba in Yichang, a large group of Mandarin ducks flew here to dance with the finless porpoise. On November 8, Yang He, a porpoise photography enthusiast in Yichang, captured this precious picture. This is also the first time in recent years that a flock of Mandarin ducks has been found to be gathered on the river surface of Yichang City.

Yang He, 63 years old this year, began to track and photograph the Yichang finless porpoise on the Yichang River in 2019, and in October he took rare photos of wild newborn porpoises and finless porpoise mothers jumping out of the river (Jimu News was exclusively reported on October 25). At 7:00 a.m. on November 8, Yang He came to the vicinity of the First Lock of Gezhouba Dam to photograph the porpoise, and found some dense black spots in the camera. In the afternoon, Yang He went home and led the photo to the computer, and took a closer look, it turned out to be a group of birds, very beautiful. After sending the pictures to the staff of the Yebao Section of the Forestry and Garden Bureau of Yichang City, he confirmed that they were Mandarin ducks, with a total number of about 50.

It is understood that the Mandarin duck mainly inhabits mountain forest rivers, lakes, ponds, reed swamps and rice paddies. Mandarin ducks are often used as a metaphor for love. Mandarin ducks are a migratory bird, and now is the time for migratory birds to move south, and Mandarin ducks are also one of the migratory birds in transit. Mandarin ducks are national second-level protected wild animals, which are not found in Yichang City and have been monitored before, but the number is very small, and it is the first time that a large group like this year has appeared.
