Born in The Cold Moon of the First Year of Guangxu (November 1875) at Ziyang Academy in Fujian Province, Qiu Jin was originally from Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, and although she was a daughter, she had a male spirit. After crossing to Japan, she changed her name to Qiu Jin, took the word Jingxiong, called herself "Jian Hu Woman", and also took a swing pen name, which all revealed the character of this little girl with great ambition and arrogance.

Before she crossed to Japan, Qiu Jin's life may have been just that of an ordinary Chinese woman.
