Hong Kong, 26 Jun (China News Service) -- Former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, successfully appealed at the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 26 June, and his conviction and sentence for "misconduct in public office" were revoked.

In October 2015, Tsang yam-kuen was charged with two counts of "misconduct by public officials" for failing to declare and disclose matters of personal interest in a timely manner when handling three applications for a hung tao broadcasting licence during his tenure as Chief Executive. In October 2016, he was charged with a "chief executive accepting benefits."

In February 2017, a jury convicted one of the counts of "misconduct by public officials," for which Tsang was sentenced to 20 months in prison. He appealed his conviction, sentence and costs and was released on bail of HK$100,000 in April 2017.

In July 2018, Tsang Yam-kuen's appeal for conviction was dismissed by the Court of Appeal of the High Court of Hong Kong, but the sentence and costs appeal were successful, and the sentence was reduced to 12 months, and the costs of the court were reduced from about HK$5 million at the original trial to HK$1 million.

Tsang later appealed to the Court of Final Appeal. The five judges of the Court of Final Appeal unanimously ruled on the success of his appeal on the 26th, and the conviction and sentence were revoked. The Court of Final Appeal ordered the case not to be retried. (End)
