The 77-year-old, who made two phone calls earlier this year to issue death threats, is set to be sentenced on January 25, 2022, and faces up to five years in prison.

According to the Arizona District Attorney's Office, Steven Arthur Martis, 77, from Bourhead City, was convicted of a charge of spreading interstate threats.

On January 17, 2021, the man left two voice messages in Pelosi's office, one threatening "I'm going to come and kill you" and the other saying "You're dead."

Mattis issued a death threat to Pelosi a year ago when he was interviewed by the FBI and warned him that such actions would violate the law. At the time, Mattis delivered a different message to another member of Congress.

Acting U.S. Attorney Glenn B. McCormick emphasized that mattis is "an important reminder that while the [U.S. Constitution] First Amendment protects our right to free speech, one of our most precious individual rights, the U.S. Attorney's Office takes very seriously the threat of killing or harming others through telephone or other forms of interstate communication."

It is reported that the First Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees citizens the right to freedom of religion, speech, assembly and petition. (Editor: SDY)
