Zeng Guofan is the founder of the Xiang Army, when he founded the Xiang Army, it was impossible for him alone to form a Xiang Army unit of such a large scale, so there were people around him to help him create the Xiang Army, that is to say, the Xiang Army was not only the founder of Zeng Guofan, but also a reason to open a company in partnership with today. The famous Xiangjun to be introduced today will be Luo Zenan, who is a close friend of Zeng Guofan, and when Zeng Guofan founded the Xiang Army, he fully assisted Zeng Guofan and was one of the founders of the Xiang Army. Luo Zenan led the Xiang Army to fight against the Taiping Army, and repeatedly inflicted heavy losses on the Taiping Army, but he finally died under the guns of the Taiping Army.
Luo Zenan was born in 1807 (the twelfth year of Jiaqing), 4 years older than Zeng Guofan, and was a fellow of Shuangfeng County, Hunan Province, Zeng Guofan, but his family was far from Zeng Guofan's, very poor, and could be described as a family disciple. However, Luo Zenan is the only son of the Luo family, and his father Luo Jiadan still attaches great importance to the education of his children and grandchildren, and tries everything to let Luo Zenan enter a private school. Luo Zenan has been smart since childhood, can never forget, and is very praised by private school teachers. Luo Zenan not only studied traditional scriptures, but also dabbled in works on astronomy, geography, art of war, and water conservancy, laying the foundation for his future military career.
In 1826 (the sixth year of Daoguang), Luo Zenan took the imperial examination, but he did not win the examination, he was very disappointed, so he returned to his hometown of Shuangfeng County to set up a library to teach, which lasted for more than 20 years. Although Luo Zenan failed to obtain a meritorious name, his outstanding talent and noble character were still respected by many people. Luo Zenan not only taught traditional scriptures, but also taught archery on horseback, and he believed that readers should not only bury their heads in reading, but must also practice both literature and martial arts. In this more than 20 years of teaching career, Luo Zenan has trained a number of proud students such as Li Xubin and Yang Changlin, especially Li Xubin, who is Luo Zenan's most accomplished student, and Li Xubin later became one of the most powerful generals in the Xiang Army.
During his teaching, Luo Zenan met Zeng Guofan, and the two had similar interests and ambitions, and soon became close friends. In 1852 (the second year of Xianfeng), Zeng Guofan formed the Xiang Army, luo Zenan learned of it, for Zeng Guofan to advise, recommend talents, train soldiers, etc., became one of the founders of the Xiang Army, and later Luo Zenan himself became the commander of the Xiang Army, transferred to Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and other provinces.
Although Luo Zenan was a scholar and a Confucian general, his ability to march and fight was indeed great, and he defeated famous generals of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom such as Qin Rigang and Zeng Tianyang many times, and his battle achievements were outstanding.
In 1856 (the sixth year of Xianfeng), Luo Zenan led the Xiang army to attack Wuchang, but in the siege battle, he was unfortunately hit by shells, bleeding profusely, and was rescued by his subordinates to the camp for rescue, but died at the age of 49 due to his injuries. When the Xianfeng Emperor learned of Luo Zenan's death, he was shocked and lamented, and ordered that he be posthumously enfeoffed as the inspector of Erpin and given the title of "Zhongjie". After Luo Zenan's death, all his subordinates came under the command of Gaozu Li Xubin.
