Mr. Li Long, a famous Marxist jurist, legal educator, an important founder of the theory of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics and the jurisprudence of New China, the "National Outstanding Senior Jurist" of the China Law Society, the "Jingchu Social Science Famous Artist" of Hubei Province, the senior professor of humanities and social sciences of Wuhan University, and the dean of the Institute of Human Rights of Wuhan University, died in Wuhan at the age of 83 at 15:45 on December 2, 2020 due to ineffective medical treatment.

On December 2, the Obituary released by the official website of Wuhan University introduced that Mr. Li Long was born on January 24, 1937 in Gongjiaping Town, Qiyang County, Hunan Province. In 1950, he joined the army, participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and engaged in medical rescue work. In 1954, he was admitted to the Law Department of Wuhan University to engage in the study and research of law. After more than 20 years of hardships and hardships, he worked in the Department of Political Science and Education of the former Huangshi Normal University (now Hubei Normal University) in 1980, engaged in legal education and scientific research, and later served as the director of the Department of Political Science and Education. He worked at the Law School of Wuhan University in 1988, was hired as a professor and doctoral supervisor in 1989, and became the vice dean of the Law School of Wuhan University in 1991. In 1996, he was appointed Honorary Dean of the College of Lawyer Training of Wuhan University. In 2000, he was appointed Dean of the Law School of Zhejiang University. In 2004, he was selected as a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at Wuhan University.

Li Long has been engaged in legal education and legal research all his life, and has served as a member of the "Horse Project" Key Textbook Review Committee of the Ministry of Education, the deputy director of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Law Discipline of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Academic Committee of the China Law Society, a standing director of the China Law Society, the vice president of the Jurisprudence Research Society of the China Law Society, the vice president of the China Branch of the International Association of Legal Philosophy and Social Philosophy, the vice president of the Legal Education Research Society of the China Law Society, the expert of the national "2011 Collaborative Innovation Center" and a member of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Mr. Li Long burned the anointing and continued to work. Since the 1980s, he has published more than 40 monographs and textbooks, and published more than 200 academic papers in newspapers and periodicals such as Chinese Social Sciences, Legal Studies, Chinese Law, People's Daily, Guangming Daily, etc., and dozens of them have been reprinted by Xinhua Digest. He has presided over more than ten projects such as major projects of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. He has won three first prizes of the National Outstanding Achievement Award, one first prize of the State Education Commission's scientific research achievements, two first prizes of the Ministry of Education's national excellent textbooks, one first prize of the Ministry of Justice's excellent textbooks, and two first prizes of the Hubei Provincial People's Government's scientific research achievements.

As early as the 1950s, Mr. Li Long actively participated in the construction of the rule of law in New China and published important articles in the People's Daily. Later, although he experienced ups and downs, Mr. Li Long was obsessed with the cause of democracy and the rule of law of the party and the state, and was infinitely loyal, and he participated in the discussion of the "1982 Constitution" and its three subsequent revisions at the invitation of relevant departments, and put forward many insightful opinions on the establishment and revision of the Constitution; from 1995 to 2000, he served as the head of the Hubei Provincial Legal Advisory Group, and participated in the discussion and deliberation of many important laws and regulations at that time and put forward suggestions for amendments. In the 1980s, Mr. Li Became a Part-time Lawyer and later participated in the establishment of Luojia Law Firm as the director of the law firm, preparing and establishing the Wuhan University Lawyers' Training College, and served as the dean. Mr. Li Long undertook many major and important cases, successfully defended the innocence of many criminal suspects, and "successively dragged back 14 lives from Huangquan Road", and was praised as a chivalrous lawyer and chivalrous professor. At the same time, Mr. Li Long was also one of the first scholars to explore the development of public interest law, and published an article entitled "A Brief Discussion of Public Interest Law" as early as the 1980s. It is under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Li Long that Wuhan University has successively created platforms such as the Legal Aid Center of Wuhan University, the Legal Research Center for Public Welfare and Development of Wuhan University, and the Human Rights Research Institute of Wuhan University, actively participating in social welfare, caring for vulnerable groups, and making its own contributions to social harmony, stability, fairness and justice.

The Funeral Committee of Mr. Li Long of Wuhan University pointed out that Mr. Li Long befriended Wuhan University in the 1950s and then taught at Wuhan University for more than half a century, as a witness and participant in the construction of China's rule of law and the development of legal science, he interpreted the historical responsibility of a Marxist jurist to us as a generation of academic masters. With deep affection and sacred mission for the development of the country and the destiny of the nation, Mr. Li Long has devoted his life to his beloved legal education and research, "studying Chinese issues and writing Chinese articles", and has always made unremitting efforts to promote the process of rule of law in China. Its people and their learning will be the inexhaustible driving force for our future generations of scholars to strive hard. Today, the superstar has fallen, the luojia grass and trees are sad, the water of the East Lake is whimpering, the Chinese legal and educational circles have lost a generation of academic masters, and Wuhan University has lost a respectable and lovely elder and mentor.
