Because of a nursery rhyme that "the son of heaven emerges from Xiangzhong", he summoned three uncles, Liu Xiuren, the King of Jian'an, Liu Yu, the King of Xiangdong, and Liu Xiuyou, the King of Shanyang, into the palace. They were ordered to weigh them, and eventually Liu Yu was given the title of "King of Pigs", Liu Xiuren was called "King of Killing", and Liu Xiuyou was called "King of Thieves".

Because the Young Emperor succeeded to the throne, he was worried that the regime was not stable enough, and wantonly killed courtiers, especially after Dai Faxing's death, Liu Ziye was even more unscrupulous, killing people entirely according to his own preferences. Suddenly, everyone above the court was in danger.
He also had no respect for his ancestors, and once pointed to the portrait of his great-grandfather Liu Yu and said that he was a hero and had captured several Heavenly Sons alive. Pointing to the portrait of his grandfather Liu Yilong, he said: He is not bad, but it is a pity that he was beheaded by his son in his later years. Pointing to the portrait of his father Liu Jun, he said: How come his big rosacea nose is gone? It also makes people draw it immediately.

Liu Ziye ascended the throne at the age of fifteen, and at the age of seventeen, he was killed by his own cronies with a sword in the Zhulin Hall.
