Chang Baoting (1929-2015) was born in Tianjin, and has been associated with cross-talk since he can remember, and he has never thought of doing anything else, he likes to say cross-talk. At that time, the quyi troupe performed "Mid-Autumn Festival Night", "New Things", "Luohan Qian" and other operas, and the male number one was Chang Baoting. In the 1960s, his cross-talk work "Listen to the Radio" was a great success, and when he performed this work, a band played and sang in the background, and also absorbed the artistic characteristics of southern burlesque. In 1979, Chang Baoting and Bai Quanfu participated in the filming of the cross-talk film "Laughter", performing the cross-talk "A New Flower". In the 90s, Chang Baoting also starred in the cross-talk TV "Awkward Words".

The Chang family can create, of which Chang Baoting and Chang Baohua have the most creations, and are known as "cross-talk writers". In the 1970s, there were only two cross-talks in the country, one was Ma Ji and Tang Jiezhong's "Ode to Friendship", and the other was Chang Baoting and apprentice Wang Peiyuan's "Digging Treasure".
