His independent design and development of graphic metal engraving tools - "Jindi engraving tools", won two national invention patents, and he himself was known as "the first person to obtain an invention patent in the arts and crafts industry after the reform and opening up". He blended the delicacy of the traditional Chinese royal court metal engraving technique with the charm of the large-scale freehand in Chinese paintings, forming a personal style of "Yang's engraving".
