A brief introduction to the life of Chen Tingjing
Chen Tingjing was born in the eleventh year of Ming Chongzhen, a native of Zezhou, and his family belonged to the Shuxiang Mendi, and there were many jinshi and ju people in the family, and he was a famous local noble family. In the fifteenth year of Shunzhi (1658), Chen Tingjing was a jinshi and was incorporated into the Hanlin Academy for further study.
For more than a decade after that, Chen Tingjing has been serving as an official of the Hanlin Academy, mainly engaged in written work. After Kangxi succeeded to the throne, the 34-year-old Chen Tingjing was appointed as a living official and served the inner court. Although this official position was not high, it could be close to the emperor, and chen Tingjing's relationship with the Kangxi Emperor gradually deepened at this stage.
In the twelfth year of the Kangxi Dynasty, Chen Tingjing transferred to the bachelor's degree and served as the deputy chief examiner of the annual examination. For fourteen years, he served as a cabinet minister and a ceremonial attendant. For twenty-three years, he served as the left capital Imperial History, the right attendant of Hubu, and the head of Hubu Qianfa. During this period, Chen Tingjing was very successful in the official arena, and his promotion was very fast, ranking among the ranks of the imperial court.
However, from the twenty-fourth year of the Kangxi Dynasty, Chen Tingjing's promotion path seemed to have slowed down, and since then he has been serving as a Shangshu in the Household Department, the Ministry of Works, and the Ministry of Officials. It was not until the forty-second year of the Kangxi Dynasty that he was promoted to a scholar of Wenyuange University. From one product to one product, Chen Tingjing's career path is really too long.
Chen Tingjing's personality was very cautious, which was certainly a good thing for the imperial court members. From the perspective of official positions, Chen Tingjing held longer positions such as Hubu Shangshu and Official Shangshu. The Hubu and the Bureaucracy were the two most important of the six ministries, and Chen Tingjing had served as two Shangshu, so was it enough to show his status?
In fact, if you know the history of the Qing Dynasty, you should know that the chief officers of the central organs of the Qing Dynasty basically implemented the Manchu-Han dual-track system, and among the six parts, there was one Shang Shu Manchu Han, and the left and right waiters were also Manchu Han. From the actual situation, the status of the Manchu Shangshu is higher than that of the Han Shangshu, and it is the official in charge of the seal.
The same was true when Chen Tingjing was appointed as The Head of hubu. At that time, Mi Sihan and Le Dehong were both Manchu Shangshu, and their status was above Chen Tingjing; when Chen Tingjing was in the post of Shangshu of the Bureaucracy, he was also the Pearl of the Manchu Shangshu, and his status was inferior to that of the Pearl.
Chen Tingjing, because he was a jinshi and a Hanlin, he had a high status in the Hanzhan system, and he served as the head of the Hanlin Academy for many years, and he was also a leading figure among the poets at that time. However, after all, the Hanlin Academy belongs to the Qing Department, which rarely involves the core of power, and its work is mainly to repair books and history in various museums. Therefore, this position is acceptable, but it is not an important minister of the imperial court.
Throughout Chen Tingjing's life, the biggest highlight is also in the compilation of various books and historical materials, the Kangxi Dynasty "Three Dynasties Hadith", "Political Classics", "Strategy", "Unification Zhi", "Ming History", "Kangxi Dictionary", "Peiwen Yunfu" and other major works, Chen Tingjing participated in the compilation, and served as the president of the government several times.

In fact, among the Han courtiers of the Kangxi Dynasty, the most favored was Li Guangdi. Li Guangdi rose to prominence in the middle of the Kangxi Dynasty and participated in major government affairs of the Kangxi Dynasty, and even after the Kangxi Emperor deposed the crown prince for the first time, he privately asked Li Guangdi about the future crown prince. In terms of personality, Li Guangdi is obviously inferior to Chen Tingjing. Throughout his life, Chen Tingjing lived in a clean and honest manner, and always cultivated himself with Confucian ethics and morality. Of course, in the official arena, Chen Tingjing's understanding is not too high, and perhaps in him, he can still see the qinggao of some scholars, but less of the habits of feudal bureaucrats. However, Chen Tingjing never entered the core class of power of the Kangxi Emperor throughout his life, and at best he could only be called a minister rather than a heavy minister.
In April of the fifty-first year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1712), Chen Tingjing died of illness at the age of 74. The Kangxi Emperor gave Wen Zhen and ordered the emperor's third son to go to the memorial, the funeral ceremony was very solemn, and the Kangxi Emperor also sent people to escort the funeral home, giving extremely high treatment, which can also be regarded as the love of the monarch for decades.
