The crown prince helped the coffin into the village, and Chen Tingjing could really enjoy such high-standard treatment after his death?

author:Sato Goshi

In the TV series "Kangxi Dynasty", Chen Tingjing played the role very brilliantly, and the Kangxi Emperor was very fond of him, and he had great respect for this Hanchen in his heart. After Chen Tingjing's death, Kangxi was so grief-stricken that he ordered the crown prince to help him enter the village.

The crown prince helped the coffin into the village, and Chen Tingjing could really enjoy such high-standard treatment after his death?

In the ancient Chinese funeral system, it was stipulated that after the death of the parents, the son must support the coffin when he came out of the funeral, which is an interpretation of filial piety in the feudal ritual law. Even now, this custom has been followed. If Kangxi had allowed the crown prince to help Chen Tingjing's coffin into the village and be buried, wouldn't the prince of Fu Coffin have become Chen Tingjing's son?

Obviously, Kangxi's claim that the crown prince would help the coffin into the village was untenable. This is not to say that Chen Tingjing does not have this qualification, but the feudal etiquette law is higher than the imperial power, that is, the Kangxi Emperor will not do anything contrary to the etiquette law. So in history, after Chen Tingjing's death, what honor did Kangxi give him? Did the coffin of the Qing Dynasty really happen?

After the death of the ministers of the Qing Dynasty, they generally enjoyed the honors of posthumous titles, giving titles, and funerals. According to the regulations of the Qing Dynasty, whenever a second-class official above the rank of waiter died, the emperor should as usual indicate that if he was not a person favored by the emperor, under normal circumstances, he would be posthumously awarded the first grade according to the custom. For example, Shilang posthumously gave the title of Shangshu, Shangshu posthumously gave the title of Prince Taibao, and university scholars posthumously gave the titles of Taibao and Taifu.

Also according to the system, the Erpin grand officers all enjoy the right to confer the title, if they are from the Hanlin Academy, that is, the cabinet proposes to select four to six titles beginning with "Wen", which are determined by the emperor, and if they are high-powered and deeply favored by the emperor, they have the opportunity to be given high-level titles such as "Wenzheng" and "Wenzhong".

In terms of giving sacrifices, it is also necessary to give silver 2,000 to 3,000 taels after the death of a scholar, and if it is a great merit before death, then the emperor will also personally go to the palace to make sacrifices, or send princes, princes, and princes and ministers to sacrifice wine.

However, it should be noted that whether it is the emperor's personal sacrifice or the dispatch of princes and ministers to sacrifice wine, it is limited to the capital mansion, and will not go to the home of the deceased.

The ministers of the Qing Dynasty, especially the Han ministers, came from all over the country, and when they were officials in Beijing during their lifetime, they all had mansions given by the emperor. After their deaths, the imperial court held a funeral for them, which was more on the scene and should be carried out in accordance with the laws of the imperial court.

After that, the coffin of the minister was to be transported back to his hometown for burial, which was said to be the root of the fallen leaves, no matter how high the position before death, how favored he was, after death, he had to be buried in the past, and there was no precedent for burial in the capital.

Chen Tingjing was a native of Zhongdaozhuang, Yangcheng County, Shanxi (present-day Huangcheng Village, Beiliu Town, Yangcheng County, Jincheng, Shanxi), and his highest rank during his lifetime was a university scholar, which was the highest rank of civil servant. In April of the fifty-first year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1712), he died of illness in the capital at the age of 74.

Chen Tingjing's official funeral was held in the capital, and the Kangxi Emperor ordered that 2,000 taels of silver be given to him to be buried and given the title of "Wen Zhen". However, the Kangxi Emperor did not personally visit chen mansion, which was not unrelated to his physical condition at that time. Kangxi sent the emperor's third son, Yin Zhi, to lead the guards to sacrifice wine, and ordered the ministers of various ministries to go to the offering.

After Chen Tingjing's funeral in the capital was completed, Kangxi sent someone to escort the funeral home. In October of that year, Chen Tingjing's coffin was transported to Zhongdaozhuang in Yangcheng County. Note that the Kangxi Emperor only sent someone to escort Chen Tingjing's coffin guili, and the historical data did not indicate who it was, in this case, it was generally sent to the great internal guards, not the imperial court, let alone the crown prince.

Chen Tingjing was buried in mid-October, and when he came out of the funeral, the Kangxi Emperor made another eulogy for him, which read:

The hereditary poems are heavily written and named in the sole remains.

Went to the age of injury Yuanfu, years of pain.

Asagiri is sincerely encouraged, and the national ceremony is balanced.

Confucian empty steps sigh, long throat light run.

Obviously, the so-called "Kangxi Dynasty" claim to send the prince to help the coffin into the village is not credible, but it is just a rendering of the film and television works.

However, in the historical data, there are also people who have enjoyed the treatment of coffin support, and it is not the emperor who supports the coffin, but the emperor who supports the coffin. This person's reputation in the history of the Qing Dynasty was far less than that of Chen Tingjing, who was also a Han chen, and his name was Du Shoutian.

The crown prince helped the coffin into the village, and Chen Tingjing could really enjoy such high-standard treatment after his death?

Readers who understand the history of the Qing Dynasty should be familiar with this person. Du Shoutian was an important behind-the-scenes military master in Daoguang's later years, and he was the teacher of the Xianfeng Emperor.

In Daoguang's later years, during the dispute between Xianfeng and Yi bi, Du Shoutian repeatedly came up with "strange tricks" to help Xianfeng defeat Prince Gong Yi bi and win the throne. Therefore, Du Shoutian was used heavily after Xianfeng ascended the throne, and the Xianfeng Emperor could be said to be obedient to him.

This Du Shoutian had a good strategy and was a theoretician, but his practical ability was average, and he was not good at governing the country. In the first year of Xianfeng, Du Shoutian served as a minister of Qincha in Shandong to relieve disasters, and died of illness on July 9 of that year. Du Shoutian's death dealt a great blow to Xianfeng, and after the coffin arrived in Beijing, the Xianfeng Emperor personally went to Du Mansion to pay homage, helped the coffin to cry bitterly, rewarded the funeral with 5,000 taels of silver, and posthumously gave Du Shoutian the title of Taishi and gave him the title of "Wenzheng".

After Du Shoutian's funeral in Beijing, the coffin set off to return to his hometown in Shandong for burial. On the day of departure, the Xianfeng Emperor gave an altar. Prince Gong also presided over the send-off ceremony, Yi Bi and the ministers of various ministries and departments watched Du Shoutian's coffin leave the city, and Xianfeng sent the Minister of Scattered Rank, Chengzhi Qian, to give him a golden pickaxe and a jade pickaxe.

The meaning of the golden pickaxe and the jade shovel is that on the way to the burial of the teacher, every mountain opens the road, the water builds a bridge, and all the things that hinder the coffin's progress are eradicated.

The crown prince helped the coffin into the village, and Chen Tingjing could really enjoy such high-standard treatment after his death?

It can be said that Du Shoutian was the person with the highest mourning after death in the history of the Qing Dynasty, but even so, the Xianfeng Emperor was only crying bitterly in the coffin, and when Du Shoutian was buried in his hometown, he sent only a general of rank who was zhengerpin, which was still a long distance compared with the crown prince's coffin into the village.
