The meaning of the poem is: "How can I hate the life of hunger and cold when I see Baoyu, and how can my sad and sickly body be relieved and self-assured?" The description of my worries and troubles for days makes me can't bear to look in the mirror, but my old age dares to be left for tens of millions of people to see! Although my purse is as empty as a leaf that can drift away with the wind at any time, the crows that now inhabit the pillow are restless all night long. Therefore, I would like to send a message to the descendants of our family: only if they can endure a peaceful life, they can seek a career. ”

Chen Tingjing was a jinshi in the fifteenth year of Shunzhi (1658), later changed to Shu Jishi. His name was initially named Jing, because he had the same name in the same subject, so the imperial court added the word "Ting" to him and changed it to Tingjing. He successively served as a lecturer (the teacher of the Kangxi Emperor), a shangshu of the Ministry of Works, a scholar of Hubu Shangshu, a scholar of Wenyuange University, a shangshu of the Punishment Department, a shangshu of the Bureaucracy, and a chief repair officer of the Kangxi Dictionary.
In March of the fifty-first year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1712), Chen Tingjing's condition worsened and he was treated by the Tai Hospital. Died in April. The Kangxi Emperor himself wrote an elegy to mourn him, with the posthumous title of "Wen Zhen".
During Chen Tingjing's tenure as an official, he repeatedly stressed the issue of official integrity. On the twenty-fourth day of the first month of the twenty-fourth year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1685), he wrote in the "Persuasion to Be Honest and Eliminate The Evils, Please Discuss the Customs in Detail", pointing out: "The greedy and the incorruptible are the greatest pass of governance; the extravagant and thrifty are the root of the corruption." I want to teach to be honest first and thrifty first. This means that luxury leads to corruption, and frugality leads to incorruptibility. Officials are required to be honest and honest and abide by discipline and the law.
He strictly demanded that he and his family should not put misbehavors, gifts and bribes for personal gain, and not be allowed to be placed in the home. When he came to the Ministry of Ceremonies, he made a rule: "Since the beginning of the court, there has been no request for entrustment in the ministry, and it is forbidden to give gifts."
His younger brother Chen Tingtong asked him for help. His father-in-law, Li Zuwang, also persuaded Chen Tingjing to help his brother if he could, which was also a common sentiment. Chen Tingjing not only did not give help, but also because his colleague Mingzhu had dredged up the official field and let Chen Tingtong go on an errand in the household department, he gave a six-pin principal errand to argue with Chen Tingtong, and Chen Tingjing would rather be resented by his brother than bend the law and use his power for personal gain. Later, Chen Tingjing discovered that his younger brother Chen Tingtong had bribed Gao Shiqi to buy officials for his career, and he righteously and sternly demanded that Gao Shiqi do official business and play it truthfully. Chen Tingjing said: "If Ting Tong is a fly camp dog, the greater his future, the greater the harm to the imperial court in the future." I have been blessed by two generations of emperors, but I know how to repay the imperial court, and I have no half a private thought. Chen Tingjing's relative Zhang Feng was a local official, honest and caring for the people, hoping that Chen Tingjing would be able to defend himself in front of the emperor, return to Beijing to listen to the use, and correct Sanpin's position as a general administrator. Chen Tingjing declined, "Although it is said that Juxian does not shy away from relatives, after all, you and I are the relatives of our children, and we will let others leave a handle." I'm afraid that if I talk too much for you, it will be bad for you. ”
After Chen Tingjing's death, the Draft History of the Qing Dynasty recorded that the Kangxi Emperor "deeply cherished" him.
The Kangxi Emperor personally wrote an elegy for Chen Tingjing: "The poetry of the hereditary generation is heavy, and the name is in the only glory." Went to the age of injury Yuanfu, years of pain.
