According to the Nikkei Chinese Network, Japanese beef rice chain Yoshinoya announced on October 29 that it would raise the price of beef rice, a major commodity. The price of beef rice (ordinary amount) served in the store rose by 39 yen to 426 yen (about 23.85 yuan), an increase of 10%.

According to the report, this is the first time that the price of beef rice (ordinary amount) of Yoshinoya has increased in Japan since 2014 and seven years. As the price of imported beef and crude oil soared, Yoshinoya decided to raise prices. Against the backdrop of the depreciation of the yen, the price of imported meat and oil is running high, and Japan's catering industry is likely to adjust prices.

According to reports, Yoshinoya said that "due to the recent surge in the price of imported beef and the rise in the price of crude oil, it is difficult for companies to maintain the current price by their own efforts." The wholesale price of U.S.-made beef pork belly (frozen products and large customers) used by beef rice chains is about 1,075 yen/kg (about 60.19 yuan/kg), which has remained nearly twice the lowest price in the summer of 2020.
