In the early morning of February 24, 1935, in a mountain rush in Shuikou Township, Changting County, Fujian Province, there was a sudden sound of rapid gunfire.

There is only one house, and the large thatched mountain is full of rain and fog, and the cold is overwhelming. Qu Qiubai in front of the house put down the bowl in his hand, hurriedly got up, and followed the team to the mountain.

The task of this escort group of more than 100 people, composed of the special service brigade of the Fujian Provincial Cpc Committee Protection Bureau, was to escort Qu Qiubai, then director of the Propaganda Department of the Central Branch of the Soviet Sub-Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, He Shuheng and Deng Zihui, members of the Central Sub-Bureau of the Soviet Government, Zhang Liang, wife of Xiang Ying, secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Sub-Bureau, and Zhou Yuelin, wife of cadre Liang Baitai, to Yongding.

After a night of rain, they borrowed firewood and burned a pot of porridge from a family in Shuikou Township. But before the porridge was finished, gunshots rang out. The densely packed soldiers pouring up on the hillside were a whole battalion escorted by the Kuomintang Zhong Shaokui's merchant ships through this place.

The escort of only a hundred people could not resist for long, and the team was quickly scattered. Qu Qiubai, He Shuheng, and Deng Zihui, with two female comrades, Zhang Liang and Zhou Yuelin, ran up the mountain under the cover of the escort, and first came to a cliff.

The enemy chased all the way up, and was already close at hand. But the cliff in front of them was not low, and not far below the cliff, the local vigilante group was also copying this side.

"You must go down to the river to get rid of the enemy," Qu Qiubai greeted the people who were traveling with him, and let the younger Deng Zihui go first. Deng Zihui quickly turned over with the help of branches and thatch on the cliff.

However, by this time the pursuers behind them were already very close, and the bullets splashed the thatched grass chips around them. And the vigilante group under the cliff also roared and ran closer. The second person to go down the cliff was He Shuheng, who was more than 60 years old, and in the panic, He Lao lost one and rolled straight down the cliff.

The rest of Zhang Liang has been pregnant for many months, and Zhou Yuelin is still a small foot, under this formation, it is difficult for the two female comrades to climb down the cliff safely. Qu Qiubai glanced back at the pursuing soldiers and waved his hand down the mountain, Deng Zihui, who had already descended the cliff, was preparing to help He Lao, who had fallen down, but the vigilante group was already approaching, and Deng Zihui had to reflexively run to the river, and he also became one of the few people in the group to escape from danger.

Qu Qiubai was captured together with Zhang Liang and Zhou Yuelin. Before being taken away, they witnessed He Shuheng struggling to get up under the cliff and was knocked down by a series of shots from the vigilante group that chased him. Elder He fell forever in blood and tears before their eyes.

The three were escorted back to the enemy camp headquarters in Shuikou Township. The battalion commander, Li Yu, immediately interrogated them. According to the pre-designed confession, Qu Qiubai confessed that his name was Lin Qixiang, 36 years old, a native of Jiangsu, who had previously run a used bookstore in Shanghai and had studied medicine for half a year. In 1932, when he traveled to Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, he was captured by the Red Army and sent to Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, where he was forced to serve as a doctor's assistant. After the main force of the Red Army was transferred, he fled the Soviet zone with money, and when he arrived at Shuikou Town yesterday, he was again captured by the local organization of the Red Army, and this battle fell into your hands again.

Zhang Liang, who was also arrested, said she was the wife of a merchant and was kidnapped by the Red Army; Zhou Yuelin also confessed that she was just an ordinary nurse in a Red Army hospital.

At that time, this Li Yu battalion commander did not have any particularly serious doubts about them, and the day after the temporary detention, Zhong Shaokui, the commander of the 14th Fujian Security Regiment, arrived by Changting, and when Li Yu reported to their regimental commander, he mentioned that the captured "Lin Qixiang" and others were carrying Hong Kong dollars, gold, and Soviet coins, and that the Red Army equipment captured with them was mostly short guns. The commander of the Zhong regiment judged that this Lin might be a prominent member of the Communist Party, so he took them to the Shanghang County Prison, where he personally tried them.

As a result, "Lin Qixiang" and others answered like a stream, and did not find any flaws. Therefore, it is prepared to follow the usual operation, grant bail, and solve the problem on the spot. "Lin Qixiang" immediately wrote two letters and sent them to Shanghai, asking friends for guarantees. Zhang Liang was favored by the local childless businessman who was waiting to give birth and paid a bail for her. Zhou Yuelin was released on bail to work as a nanny in his home because the wife of the enemy camp commander Li Yu was waiting to give birth. Both were released from prison.

Qu Qiubai's letter to Shanghai was addressed to his best friend Lu Xun. The letter, which was sent after review by the prison, reads as follows:

"I am Lin Qixiang, I have a cup of friendship with you in Beijing, I have not heard from you for many years, I don't know how your body is." I was sick and lived at home for a few years and didn't go to school. Two years ago, I entered Tongji Medical University for half a year, fell ill again, went to Shanghang, Fujian Province to recuperate, and now I have been arrested by the Kuomintang. You know me, I am not a communist, and if someone proves that I am not a communist, if there is a solid guarantee, I can be released. ”

Qu Qiubai and Lu Xun

Lu Xun understood that "Lin" is a double wood, but also through the eyes, Qu is the head of the eyes, this Lin Qixiang, is Qu Qiubai. He immediately informed Qu Qiubai's wife Yang Zhihua, who was staying in Shanghai to work, and immediately sent Qu Qiubai 50 yuan, along with two pairs of pants that Yang Zhihua had remodeled. Who knows, the money and pants had just been sent from the post office, and the next day, they read desperately in the Newspaper in Shanghai that Qu Qiubai had been arrested.

"Lin Qixiang" was discovered, and Qu Qiubai was eventually discovered by the enemy, for reasons that were once difficult to agree on. So many years later, when Xiang Ying saw his wife Zhang Liang, he drew a gun to kill his wife, because Zhang Liang was one of the few people who knew Qu Qiu's white background, and the other was Zhou Yuelin. Until liberation, Zhou Yuelin was considered to be a "traitor" who confessed to Qu Qiubai, and she was imprisoned for more than 20 years, almost spending most of her life in prison, and the ending was lamentable.

But the actual cause, like the seemingly inevitable ending, always stems from accidental details.

At that time, Wan Yongcheng, secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, was killed in Guilongshan, Fujian Province, in a breakout battle in April 1935. After his wife was captured, he confessed that Qu Qiubai, the former general secretary of the Communist Party of China, was arranged by Wan Yongcheng to be transferred, but during the transfer process, the defense team was scattered and Qu's whereabouts were unknown.

Zhang Liang and Xiang Ying

With this news, the Kuomintang immediately cleaned up the captured personnel in the major prisons, intending to find Out Qu Qiubai who was likely to be captured. This, of course, includes The Shanghang Prison where Qu Qiubai is located. However, all of Lin Qixiang's confessions were too strict, there was no flaw at all, and the enemy never suspected Lin Qixiang. This also stems from the seamless design of the security personnel of the Central Sub-bureau of the Soviet District before departure.

But history always has so many amazing coincidences that people are caught off guard.

One day, the jailer in charge of delivering food in Shanghang Prison was absent, and the husband of the prison canteen was temporarily assigned to deliver food. Coincidentally, this guy once ran in the canteen of the Soviet District and met many leading figures in the Soviet District. In a cell, he saw that the prisoner "Lin Qixiang" was very familiar, and when he finished delivering the meal and came out of the prison door, he suddenly remembered that this person was the famous Qu Qiubai, and asked the prison guard in passing, "You caught Qu Qiubai?" ”。

This question immediately alarmed the entire Shanghang City.

"Lin Qixiang" was immediately escorted to the Changting Division Headquarters, and Wu Songtao, director of the Military Justice Department, personally interrogated him. After interrogation, "Lin Qixiang" was unusually calm, and there was no gaffe at all. However, through the comparison of age and appearance, southern Jiangsu accent and whereabouts, the enemy more and more feels that this person is Qu Qiubai, the former number one figure in the CCP.

A few days later, a traitor named Zheng Dapeng was taken to prison, who had worked under Qu Qiubai, and after identification, he told Wu Songtao unmistakably that this person was Qu Qiubai.

Qu Qiubai and his wife Yang Zhihua

In the days that followed, Song Xilian, commander of the Kuomintang 36th Division, followed the secret instructions of the government at the time and arranged for Qu Qiubai to "live a good life and open another room." The Kuomintang, including celebrities in the cultural circles, unanimously wanted to persuade Qu Qiubai to surrender.

According to Song Xilian's recollection afterwards, the Kuomintang Central Committee held several meetings of senior cadres to discuss how to persuade Qu Qiubai to surrender. Chen Lifu, then director of the Kuomintang Organization Bureau, specially summoned the Central Bureau of Unification to study countermeasures, and the Central Unification Group persuaded Qu Qiubai to surrender for 6 days and carried out a total of 9 times, Wang Jeff and Chen Jianzhong from the Central Unification personally participated in the surrender, and Song Xilian, commander of the 36th Division, even talked with Qu Qiubai for several days, but Qu Qiubai was completely unmoved.

In prison, he spent six days writing the controversial "Superfluous Words," and the last paragraph of the article actually showed the party organization his determination to die generously.

"I leave you with these pages—my last most honest honesty. Goodbye! It is of course you, not me, who judge everything. I just have to rest. ”

And for the enemies who have repeatedly persuaded them to surrender, Qu Qiubai's attitude is also very calm, he just told them, "People love their own history, more powerful than birds love their wings, please do not tear my history."

On June 15, 1935, all the Kuomintang attempts to persuade the surrender failed. Chiang Kai-shek's telegram: Shoot and execute in Fujian, and present the photo for examination.

Qu Qiubai took a photo before the righteousness

This is the origin of Qu Qiubai's photo of white clothes and black clothes, incomparably peaceful and calm.

On June 18, Qu Qiubai bravely rebelled. On the same day, the Ta Kung Pao Changting Newsletter recorded the following:

Walk to the Luohan Ridge outside the West Gate of Changting, surrounded by mountains and green grass. Qu Qiubai looked around, overlooking the green peaks in the distance, and the mountains and fields in the near distance, calmly nodding to the executioner quietly, "This place is very good."

Then he sat cross-legged, laughing and drinking.
