"The merchant girl does not know the hatred of the country, and sings the backyard flowers across the river." When the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu saw the scene of prosperity and luxury in Qinhuai at night, he suddenly felt a sense of emotion and wrote such a sentence in the poem "Bo Qinhuai". The merchant girl here refers to the singer who sells and sings for a living, and the "backyard flower" is the "sound of the subjugation of the country" "Yushu Backyard Flower" made by Chen Shubao, the lord of Chen Hou in the Southern Dynasty.

What really happened to Chen Guo during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, so much so that people wanted to use "Yushu Backyard Flower", a beautiful and magnificent love song, as a song of annihilation, and even Du Mu had to use the name of Chen Hou to satirize the monarch of the Tang Dynasty. All this has to look at the life of Lord Chen Hou.
If you want to name a list of the "Ten Great Emperors" in ancient China, Chen Shubao, the lord of the Southern Dynasty Chen Hou, must be the leader. In 553, when Chen Shubao was born, it was still a period of great chaos in the world, the Southern Dynasty was still in power of the Liang State, and Chen Shubao's family was also involved in the conquest of the state and the struggle for imperial power.
Chen Shubao's situation in his infancy was almost the same as that of Ah Dou in the Three Kingdoms period, and he was taken hostage by Western Wei generals because of the war not long after his birth, or the clan relative Chen Ba, who preceded Liang Jianchen in 557 AD, only to welcome Chen Shubao and other hostages back in 562.
In 568, Chen Shubao's father, Chen Yan, ascended the throne as Emperor Xuan of Chen. During his reign, he can also be regarded as a generation of Ming emperors, who encouraged farming, reclaimed wasteland, and built water conservancy, which gradually increased the national strength of the Chen state, and under stability, the people gradually recovered after the war.
However, it is estimated that Emperor Xuan of Chen himself did not expect that the foundation he had painstakingly created was all squandered by chen shubao, the "son of a loser". At that time, Chen Shubao was already 15 years old, perhaps he suffered a disaster in his childhood and lacked teaching; or he saw many tragic things about the destruction of the country and his family, but he had always been pampered, and Chen Shubao eventually became a waster who only knew how to seize the time and enjoy himself.
Originally, in a chaotic time, it would be a very dangerous thing if the monarch did not have the ambition to dominate the world, the country was likely to be divided, and the emperor's life was also in danger. However, Chen Shubao still has ambitions for the pleasure of being a monarch, but he just does not want to take on a little responsibility as a monarch, and he enjoys the inheritance laid by his ancestors for generations, but he does not know the hardships of "entrepreneurship".
It was not until 577 AD that the 22-year-old Chen Shubao formally studied Confucian classics such as the Analects and the Book of Filial Piety, and as a result, Chen Shubao did not put the knowledge of learning on the right thing, but feasted on guests all day, held a "literary salon", and formed a huge literary group.
In 582, Emperor Xuan of Chen died, and although Chen Shubao was the crown prince, he did not ascend the throne smoothly. His brother Chen Shuling, the King of Sixing, had been carrying out assassination operations behind his back, and in the end he even directly tore his face and personally took a knife to cut Chen Shubao. In the end, Chen Shubao was only injured to the neck and escaped the disaster, but his luck was Chen Guo's greatest misfortune.
After Chen Shubao ascended the throne, he ignored the government on the pretext that he had been slashed and needed to recuperate, and left all affairs to the empress dowager, while he himself spent the spring supper happily with his favorite concubine Zhang Lihua. Zhang Lihua was later considered to be a woman who was "a disaster for the water and the wrong country", and she won the love of Chen Shubao because of her quick thinking and excellent memory.
Because the Chen kingdom had been in trouble for less than 30 years since its establishment through war, the previous kings had worked hard to govern and lived a very simple life, and the imperial palace was very simple. Chen Shubao was naturally dissatisfied with this, he built a large number of civil engineering, built a palace pavilion for himself, and lived in it with more than a dozen of his concubines, living as if in a fairyland, and his concubines were called "immortals under the mortals".
Chen Shubao ruled the country in this way, it was impossible for Chen Guo not to have accidents, and the kings, because they did not have the suppression of imperial power, gradually became ambitious, pampered and proud, and the ministers also came in to offer rumors. At that time, the Sui Dynasty had already begun, and its first emperor, Emperor Wen of Sui, Yang Jian, had the talent to know people and do good deeds, and also had the same ambition as Qin Shi Huang to sweep the world.
The ministers of the Sui Dynasty saw that Chen Guo was like this, and rushed to persuade Emperor Wen of Sui to hurry up and attack Chen Guo. After Chen Shubao heard this news, he did not think so, and still absurdly vocal music, music and wine, insisting on building a seven-level floating map. A group of ministers and generals repeatedly discouraged, all of them were "laughed" by Chen Shubao, and still drank and played with the concubines in the high court, composing poems and singing.
"Flowers in the Backyard of the Yushu Tree" was composed by Chen Shubao for his concubines in his court, and in 589 AD, when the Sui Dynasty invaded the capital of the Chen kingdom, Chen Shubao was still singing this song with Kong Guifei and Zhang Lihua. It was not until the Sui army entered the imperial city that Lord Chen Hou began to panic and hid in the dry well in the backyard with two concubines.
In the end, Zhang Lihua and Kong Guifei were killed as demon girls, but Chen Shubao was able to survive. Emperor Yang Jian of sui saw that he was useless except for his pleasure, and built a mansion for him to treat him well. History is always strikingly similar, if Ah Dou Le does not think about Shu, then Chen Shubao is Le bu to think "Chen".
The collapse of the country and the tragic death of his favorite concubine did not cause any mood fluctuations for him. Emperor Wen of Sui treated him well, and he was extremely satisfied, and then indulged in wine for 15 years, and finally died in a drunken dream in 604 AD, at the age of 52.
