The Southern Dynasty was born from the Eastern Jin Dynasty and was divided into four dynasties: the Southern Song Dynasty, the Southern Qi, the Southern Liang Dynasty, and the Southern Chen Dynasty. Founded by Emperor Wu chen baxian, Southern Chen continued for more than thirty years, after five emperors, was the longest-standing dynasty in the Southern Dynasty, and was finally buried in the hands of the later lord Chen Shubao.

Chen Hou Lord, whose real name was Chen Shubao, was the last monarch of Southern Chen, and many descendants called him Chen Hou Lord. Chen Shubao was born in November 553 (the second year of Liang Chengsheng of the Southern Dynasty), the eldest son of Chen Xuan's emperor Chen Yan, and by the time of his birth, Chen Baxian (Emperor Kaiguo of Southern Chen) had already seized real power in Southern Liang and became the hegemon of one side. In 554, as a child, he and his family were taken captive by the Northern Wei forces to Chang'an and taken as hostages in Yongcheng (穰城; present-day Deng County, Henan).
In 557, Chen Ba's ancestor Liang Jianchen died less than three years after emperor, and after Emperor Wen took the throne, he sent envoys to the Northern Dynasty, and Chen Shubao's family was able to return to the Southern Dynasty. After Chen Yan returned to China, he was crowned King of Ancheng and Chen Shubao was made the son of King Ancheng, thus ending his childhood life of wandering away from home. This year, Chen Shubao was ten years old.
According to the "Sixth Book of Chen Shushu", Chen Shubao grew up in the deep palace since childhood, and even during the Period of The Northern Dynasty, his life was rich and superior, and he did not know the difficulty of harvesting at all.

Nan Chen, since The founding of Chen Ba, the inner court furnishings are very simple. After Chen Shubao succeeded to the throne, he felt that the palace garden was too simple, so he built a large palace room, and built Linchun Pavilion, Jieluo Pavilion and Wangxian Pavilion in front of the Guangzhao Hall, with several high pavilions, even dozens of houses, windows, thresholds, and beams were made of agarwood and sandalwood, decorated with gold and jade treasures, and embedded with pearls and jadeite. There are treasure beds and treasure tents in the room, and pearl roller blinds outside, and whenever the breeze blows, the incense drifts for miles.
The courtyard is piled with many strange rocks, and through many small lakes and pools, planting all kinds of exotic flowers and plants. Chen Hou's favorite concubine, Zhang Lihua, sometimes sat alone in Linxuan, sometimes leaning on the railing and looking at it, and everyone who saw it thought that the fairy was under the heavens.

Growing up in a greenhouse, Chen Hou was fond of poetry and song, and during his reign as prince, a large number of scribes became subordinates of his Eastern Palace and often held literary banquets. The lord of the queen liked to sing and drink bitterly, and every time he feasted, he let the concubines, female bachelors and foxes give each other poems, and selected beautiful poems from them, and let people compose and sing songs, among which the famous one was "Yushu Backyard Flower".
Li Yu Fanglin to the high pavilion, the new decoration of the glamorous essence of the city; Ying hu condensed jiaojiao at first, out of the curtain with a smile to greet each other. The face of the demon Ji is like a flower with dew, and the jade tree shines in the backyard; the flower blossoms and falls for a long time, and the red falls into silence! Because of the poem "The flowers in the back garden of the jade tree, the flowers do not bloom for a long time", it is regarded by posterity as the sound of the subjugation of the country. The monarch often drank and sang all night long, and had long forgotten the major affairs of the country.
In addition, Chen Shubao loves female color, and the most favored in the harem are Zhang Guifei, Kong Guifei, Gong Guifei and others, so he lives in Linchun Pavilion, Zhang Guifei lives in Jieqi Pavilion, Gong and Kong Ergui concubines live in Wangxian Pavilion, and there is a complex road connection between the three pavilions. Others, including Wang and Li Ermei, Zhang and Xue Ershuyuan, Yuan Zhaoyi, He Jiehao, jiang Rong, etc. were also favored, but they were very cold to Empress Shen Wuhua and rarely went to her palace.
This was because Empress Shen saw that Chen Shubao had been indulging in sound and color all day and abandoning government affairs, but her heart was very anxious, and she wrote to advise many times. Unexpectedly, it annoyed the lord of the queen, and not only was he snubbed, but he was almost abolished. Later, the lord wanted to make Zhang Lihua empress, but it was not implemented due to the death of the country.

Lord Chen Hou did not pay attention to the government, and the major affairs of the country were basically managed by the minister Kong Fan, and he himself was obsessively circling around the wine cup and the beautiful woman. However, Kong Fan, who was born as a literati, was also a master who had no opinion, and only knew that blindly pleasing and pandering to Lord Chen Hou without principle, and that the major affairs of the state were not a matter in front of the lord's eating, drinking, and entertainment.
Lord Chen Hou also favored the noble concubine Zhang Lihua, who was good at observing words and colors, and did everything to greet and flatter Lord Chen Hou, not only using superstitious means such as wizards and ghosts to confuse the Queen Lord, but also gathering a group of beautiful women to dance in the palace to please him. As a result, Lord Chen Hou no longer seriously handled major state affairs, and whenever there was a request, the Lord always put Zhang Guifei on his lap and discussed and decided together.
Lord Chen Hou could not remember the things himself, but the noble concubines could answer them one by one, and thus they became more and more arrogant. Zhang Lihua colluded with eunuchs, co-opted nobles, accepted bribes, and sold officials and knights, and some of the ministers who did not obey their orders indiscriminately framed her, and as a result, many court officials had to attach themselves to her.
In this way, Chen Shubao ended the Southern Chen Dynasty with his own absurdity and no way, and became the queen lord who was talked about by the world! When the Sui army attacked the city of Jiankang, the Hou Lord actually hid in a dry well with his concubines.
