Andy Whitefield was born on 17 November 1971 in Anglesea, Wales, England, and studied architecture at The University of Harlem, Sheffield. In 1999, he and his fiancée, Vashti Whitfield, moved to Australia to work as an engineer in Lydcombe before moving to Sydney, where he studied at the Screenwise Television and Film Actors School. Andy Whitefield began to become a model, with more than 40 advertising campaigns in Asia and Europe, and also began to make an inroads into acting careers.
In 2004, he first appeared in the public eye as an actor, making a small cameo role in an episode of the Australian series All Saints. In 2007, he played the male protagonist Gabriel in the Australian action film "Angel of Innocence". In 2010, he played the male protagonist Spartacus in the Starz TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, for which he himself was nominated for the Monte Carlo TV Festival Outstanding Actor in a Series. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in March 2010 and died on 11 September 2011.
