"You're the bottom of the grade, you can't graduate, you're just going to work."
In the crowd, I saw only a thin little boy, with his head bowed, slowly moving his steps, walking up to the podium, and taking the certificate handed by the principal with both hands.
The father on the side stroked his head lovingly, and as the crowd moved, the father and son silently walked out of the school.
Back at home, my father spoke softly to my mother, asking him to study sculpture or apprentice to a merchant.
Only to see the boy come over and say firmly, "No, Father, I still have to continue to study." ”
It is such a person who has not graduated from primary school, by virtue of self-study, but has become a well-known master of traditional Chinese studies at home and abroad, he is the famous Zen master - Nan Huaijin.
He was well versed in the teachings of the Dharma, but he was not superstitious, saying that the Dharma was the "sentient" dharma, and that he himself was a "sentient" person.

Father of Nan Huaijin
Nan Huaijin's affection and righteousness, broad-mindedness, all stem from the fact that he has a good father, words and deeds, and has a profound influence on him.
When Nan Huaijin was running a primary school, his father comforted him:
"Reading is for reason, not for glory"
Later, he studied on his own, and his father specially hired the master Ye Gongshu to dial him.
Nan Huaijin studied while learning martial arts, and his father personally urged him to get up early and not let go of snowy days.

Sometimes in the cold winter moon, he was also allowed to walk 30 kilometers alone to the mountain temple to study hard, and told him that he did not have to come back for the New Year.
His mother was distressed by him, but his father said:
"Childhood does not know hardships, will eventually harm his life"
After three years of hard self-study, Nan Huaijin learned the homework of others for ten years.
This laid a solid foundation for him to settle down and do academic work.
My father liked to make friends with able people, and the family was often full of friends; when he encountered people in difficulty, his father was always able to give generously.
From a young age, Nan Huaijin is also like her father, treating people with a broad mind and feelings and righteousness.
After Nan Huaijin became a family and had children, he took his swordsman dream to Emei Mountain to visit famous teachers, and his father wrote to him:
"The sword must be handed over to the corporal, and the gold should buy more books of a hundred cities"
He obeyed his father's teachings and made friends with righteous men.
In February 1945, the Japanese army ran rampant in Yueqing, holding counterfeit currency to buy goods, the father did not comply, but was besieged by several Japanese soldiers, in danger, the father fought with the Japanese soldiers with his bare hands, and held the saber that was chopped.
His chivalrous righteousness and courage, not afraid of power, also deeply affected Nan Huaijin.
Once Nan Huaijin returned home to his relatives, his father asked him to give a Lesson on Buddhist Scriptures for his neighbors, and he himself listened below, and Nan Huaijin, who had always been respectful and respectful, had a difficult face:
"If you listen, I won't dare to talk about it."
But the father said, "You are old, you don't have to be polite." ”
With respect and gratitude for his father's charity, Nan Huaijin preached filial piety to his neighbors:
"Filial piety comes first, regard other people's parents as their parents, and regard other people's children as their children."
My father was pleased and wrote a poem to persuade him:
Floating clouds and world affairs compete for eyes, sitting idly in the forest and playing the seven strings.
Deliberately let him go into hiding.
And he was instructed to:
The rich and scattered thousands of dollars are enough, and the poor can be generous in the world.
Let his boy aspire to be a person who is beneficial to others.

After Nan Huaijin studied art with a teacher in Mount Emei and became proficient in swordsmanship, he went to Zhejiang Wushu Gym for two years to study, and finally graduated with the first place in the second phase, leaving him as an instructor.
Later, Nan Huaijin was also embraced as the "King of the Northern Han Dynasty", commanded the mountains of Chongqing, and had a wide range of influence.
He came into contact with Buddhism while working as an instructor to investigate social welfare, met his mentor Yuan Huanxian, became his chief disciple, and after three years of enlightenment in retreat, he lectured everywhere.
Nan Huaijin's influence on Wen Nengwu was far-reaching, and he was favored by the Kuomintang and wanted to ask him to do things, but he obeyed his father's teachings and retreated to the mountains.
When Nan Huaijin was staying at the Lingfeng Temple of his old friend Juzan, the hangzhou authorities were about to arrest Juzan, accusing him of colluding with the Communist Party.
Nan Huaijin stepped forward and used her special status and influence to find someone in Nanjing.
From Hangzhou to Shanghai, Nan Huaijin took a three-hour train ride; and then squeezed from Shanghai to Nanjing, he stood for another eight hours.
Nan Huaijin found a group of Dai Kasa's old subordinates, "Brothers", and made a guarantee for Master Juzan:
"I absolutely believe his words, whether he is really fake, why must I take this monk's head off?" So I personally came to Nanjing. ”
Zheng Jiemin verbally promised not to kill Juzan, but Nan Huaijin was still not at ease and asked him to write a warrant that he could take and give it to the director of the Hangzhou station of the Secrecy Bureau.
Giant Praise Mage
Nan Huaijin took the document of bailing Juzan and finally saved Juzan From the hands of the military commander.
Zhuge Liang said: "It is difficult for snobbers to go far. The soldiers know each other, the warmth does not increase, the cold does not change, the four hours do not fade, the adventure is calm and the danger is solid. ”
In fact, even Nan Huaijin himself felt that he was not completely sure, but for the sake of his old friend, he opened up.

After saving Master Juzan, Nan Huaijin was invited to Taiwan to give a lecture.
When she first arrived in Taiwan, Nan Huaijin encountered a fire in a small hotel, and many people were living on the streets and had nowhere to go for a while.
Nan Huaijin generously donated money to take in these refugees, and among them, there was a girl from Changchun, Jilin Province named Yang Xiangwei.
Yang Xiangwei is clever and clever, nan Huaijin intends to let her help her rescue refugees together, and after a long time, the two people have feelings and get married.
After getting married, the cost is increasing, and it is easy to help refugees! Nan Huaijin had to do shipping business with his fellow Wenzhou compatriots, and their three boats formed a "Righteous Ceremony" company.
Unexpectedly, however, when the Kuomintang retreated from Zhoushan, it forcibly occupied the ship of the Yilixing Company, left it, and never returned, resulting in the bankruptcy of the company.
Overnight, Nan Huaijin was heavily in debt.
At this time, Nan Huaijin already had 4 children, and their lives were once difficult, and they could only live in a broken house with a windy head in the door and counting stars.
In order to alleviate the burden of her wife raising 4 children, Nan Huaijin often writes books with her right hand, holds her young son in her left hand, and pushes the cradle with her feet to coax the crying baby.
Under such a predicament, Nan Huaijin still tirelessly immersed herself in research and published the book "Zen Sea Li detective"; with amazing memory, she completed the writing of "Leng Yan Dayi Present Interpretation" and "Leng Jia Dayi Present Interpretation".
He often laughed at himself with "cooking words to cure hunger", often with a smile on his face, a relaxed look, calm and relaxed, and he could not see that he was in a difficult situation, and in such a difficult situation, he would still see others to help.
"Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Shu Zhi" Chen Shou talks about sentient people:
Whenever there is an emergency, the first person comes after the other.
Nan Huaijin is such a sentient person.
At that time, the family had no food for three meals, but when they saw the neighbor's hungry appearance, Nan Huaijin would take advantage of the neighbor's sleep in the middle of the night and secretly put the rice she got by chance in front of the neighbor's house.
Helping people to give people face is called great wisdom.
The list goes on and on.
At the beginning, Nan Huaijin's filial piety preached, "Regard the parents of the world as their own parents, and regard the children of the world as their own children." ”
And that's exactly what he himself is practicing.
He also truly achieved the "poor energy generosity is rare in the world" taught by his father.

In 1960, Hu Shi read the "Interpretation of The Great Righteousness of Leng Yan" and deeply agreed with Nan Huaijin's exposition.
Hu Shi's status in Taiwan at that time was very high, and the Taiwan authorities attached great importance to his various opinions, so they promoted the revival of traditional Chinese culture.
Nan Huaijin's books gradually became well known, and his disciples gradually increased.
Nan Huaijin's fame was a household name in Taiwan for a while.
In 1963, Nan was hired by Taipei Chinese Culture University, and later, he taught the I Ching course at Fu Jen University in Taipei.
Nan Huaijin attaches great importance to the "home furniture school" and invites students to give lectures at home to establish a deep friendship between teachers and students.
Most of his students became important figures in Taiwan's later political, cultural, and financial circles.
Nan Huaijin's influence grew day by day.
Taking this opportunity, Nan Huaijin founded the "East-West Essence Association" in 1969, and the purpose of the association was summarized by one of his couplets:
Up and down for 5,000 years, 100,000 miles, the three major religions of Jinglun, in and out of a hundred dialects.
Nan Huaijin lectured everywhere, wearing a green cloth shoe, or a suit and leather shoes, always smiling and talking humorously. Whether it is a celebrity sergeant or a pawn of a peddler, everyone will smile when they hear it.
Many mysterious and incomprehensible Dharma or pharmacology, or Confucian and Taoist doctrines, can be explained in the most ordinary words in three words and two words.
The breadth of Nan Huaijin's involvement is still unmatched by no one; his writings are also impressive.
In order to better promote and inherit Chinese culture, Nan HuaiJinjian Publishing House published books and ran magazines "Humanistic World" and "Knowledge".
In 1976, Nan Huaijin published a collection of speeches, "Analects of Discourse", which corrected everyone's view of Confucius, which was popular and reprinted many times, and was popular in the Chinese cultural circles.
Nan Huaijin was admired by more and more people, and more people with lofty ideals were influenced by his teachings and actively participated in the revolution.
To avoid persecution, Nan moved to the United States in 1985 and established the East-West Academy in Virginia.
With the mission of helping the world, Nan Huaijin has realized her dream of inheriting Chinese culture step by step.

Nan Huaijin not only uses the inheritance of culture to save sentient beings, he also does real things.
In the late 1980s, Nan Huaijin came to Hong Kong and was always concerned about the situation in her hometown and country.
In 1990, taishun and Wencheng floods, Nan Huaijin donated funds to rescue, and established the "Nan's Medical Science and Technology Foundation" and "Agricultural Science and Technology Award Foundation" in Wenzhou to relieve the suffering of his hometown.
For the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Nan Huaijin was willing to be an enthusiastic intermediary.
On June 16, 1992, during the meeting between Su Zhicheng and Wang Daohan, Nan Huaijin personally drafted the "Proposal for Peaceful Mutual Assistance, Consultation, and Reunification", which single-handedly established an official communication channel between the two sides of the strait and promoted the "1992 Consensus".
Nan Huaijin used his fame and prestige to raise large sums of money for national education and people's livelihood construction.
He repeatedly urged Peking University to establish the Institute of Traditional Literature, which he facilitated and has been granting.
After Nan Huaijin returned to China, he was the first to set up a joint-stock Sino-foreign joint venture company, which was intended
"To open a big example, the Chinese government's public construction can cooperate with other investors, and I will open this closed door."
He also earnestly instructed many overseas students to invest in the mainland, introduce advanced science and technology, and support the country's economic construction.
Nan Huaijin knew that it would take a day and night to take a boat from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, to Shanghai, and that it would not be possible to sail in the face of wind and waves, and it would be dangerous to carry people and load goods, so she ran around and raised 12.86 million US dollars (3 billion yuan) for the construction of the Jinwen Railway.
The 251.5-kilometer railway, built over five years, opened up a convenient road to the outside world for 17 million fathers and countrymen in Zhejiang.
On June 11, 1998, on the eve of the opening of the Jinwen Railway, based on the idea of "retiring after success, returning the road to the people", Nan Huaijin transferred the equity to Zhejiang Province and the Ministry of Railways.
Silent dedication, not seeking fame, not seeking profit, just to be able to do something, Nan Huaijin practiced his dream of saving the country and helping the poor with actions.

Nan Huaijin dedicates what she has learned in her life to the world, and also dedicates her life's income to the inheritance of traditional culture.
After 2006, Nan Huaijin moved to Wujiang District, Suzhou, and founded the "Taihu University Hall" to spread traditional Chinese culture.
He established the "Guanghua Scholarship Foundation" to fund more than ten Chinese universities in the north and south of the mainland, and Peking University is one of them.
He also silently donated to project hope... All of this is deeply touching.
On September 28, 2005, the anniversary of the birth of Confucius, Nan Huaijin was invited to give a speech.
Someone asked him: What is a career?
He replied rhetorically:
The people of the world who take measures are called undertakings.
He explained that a person only does one thing in his life, and this thing is, always good for the world, good for everyone. For example, Dayu Zhishui.
Everything else, from the emperor down to the beggar, is nothing more than a profession.
And he himself is not doing a great cause.
On August 4, 2006, Nan Huaijin gave a speech on the mass communication of Chinese culture and tradition.
He believes that cultural people must have a goal in life and shoulder social responsibilities; the press and publishing should not be the media, but should be a cultural pioneer; and the primary purpose of education is to teach people to be human, because things are done by people.
The four-hour speech, attended by more than 200 people from the press and publishing circles on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, were suddenly enlightened, such as Daigo empowerment.
Someone sighed:
"In the environment of today's era, there is also such a revered master of Sinology, who dedicates all his efforts to continue the great teachings since Kong Sheng and Shakyamuni Buddha, passing on the torch from generation to generation, and never stopping..."
Master Nan Huaijin spread traditional culture in various ways, and many of the writings and treatises we see today, as well as video videos, can be seen everywhere.
"Wash thick makeup for Ah who, the sub-rules in the voice to persuade people to return."
Hundreds of flowers fall endlessly, and they hoof deep into the chaotic peaks."
This is a poem written by Nan Huaijin in his later years at the Taihu Academy.
This means that although the era of Dharma prevalence has passed, in the end of the Dharma era, it is still necessary to remind people to inherit the Chinese cultural traditions, even if they dry their last drop of blood and the last tear.
During the few days of secret teaching at the Taihu Academy, many students from home and abroad were grateful for Mr. Nan Huaijin's efforts and funded support, but they were opposed by Nan Huaijin:
"Don't engage in this set, the notice has already made it clear."
Behind the harshness is love.
Zen master Yiwei said: To practice bodhichitta is to be in the realm of compassion day and night.
Nan Huaijin is such a person who is kind day and night.

"Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, leisurely seeing the South Mountain", Tao Yuanming's poem is elegant and frank, giving many people dreams and reverie. It is also the ideal state of life that many people aspire to.
The real society, complex and fierce competition, makes many people impetuous and unable to settle down, but everyone has their own poetry and far away, and they yearn for Tao Yuanming's idyllic life.
Actually, you know what? In the eyes of the Buddhist family, Tao Yuanming's kind of calmness is only a personal insight into life, it has only reached this detachment and freedom of the self, in Buddhist terms, he has reached the realm of arhats.
And the real sentient beings are aware of the vicissitudes of reality, and they can be liberated, but they can integrate into the masses and guide others out of difficulties.
And Nan Huaijin, a master of traditional Chinese studies, is undoubtedly such a "sentient" person.
As the old saying goes: Why should the ruthless be born in this world, and if there is a good thing, it must be tired of this body.
And Nan Huaijin has always taken "I should say the Dharma for all sentient beings" as his duty, so that the life and spiritual sublimation of sentient beings can be liberated, that is, the Dharma is almsgiving, practicing great compassion and compassion, and leading to Mahayana. In the words of the present, it is to save the world with cultural philosophy.
Zen Master Xuedou has a verse:
"Taihu Lake is thirty-six thousand acres, and the moon is said to whom in the heart of the wave."
This realm is very high, it is the most affectionate. The Puxian Bodhisattva Wishes say, "The void is exhausted, and I wish to be infinite", which is also the most affectionate.
In August 1992, Mr. Nan Huaijin, who was 95 years old, passed away.
He had said before he was alive that he would not go to Elysium to seek a past life, but that he would be born in the human world.
It is not a fairy bone, and amorous is the heart of the Buddha.
