- The Culprit-
Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center is located on "net red" Anfu Road, there is no large crowd of weekday afternoons, it is not easy to score quietly here. On the second floor of the Drama Center is a café, and the window seats can clearly see the traffic and crowds downstairs. In the hard-won good weather of the rainy season, LuIsa, the director of the stage play "Sinner", who is about to perform the third round, and Xu Shengnan, the lead actor, had an "open heart" conversation, counting the "enmity and hatred" accumulated by the three rounds of rehearsal + performance.
Mining & Overlay
The story of "The Sinner" is born from the Danish movie of the same name, a field police officer named Astor was demoted to work in the police center because of a mistake in action and waited for the trial to come, Astor did not like the work of the police center, nor did he like the vast majority of police people, he just wanted to survive, until the end of the trial, he could return to his previous field duties, away from the telephone ringing that would not stop every hour and every second. On his last night at the police center, he received a distress call from a woman...
Male lord
Police Astor
Xu Shengnan as
Xu Shengnan, an actor dressed in sportswear, leaned back on a chair by the window, waiting for an opening topic, and after the end of this conversation, he also rushed to the gym to work out, "Many viewers said that I was fat, I could still deny it when I performed in winter, summer came, I saw that I also felt fat and needed to exercise." He played the male protagonist in "Sinner", and he was also a character who advanced the plot through a phone call in the stage reality - police officer Astor.
- "How do you understand Astor?"
- Understanding is a difficult thing, and it is even more difficult for an actor to understand the character he is playing. Xu Shengnan does not like to "one-sided" the role, he believes that the role should be as plump as possible, the fuller and more like that, the more able to let the audience into the play. Behind every role on the stage that the audience likes, the actors are constantly digging and superimposing. "Astor is nothing special, he's a man in a midlife crisis, his family is not happy, and his proud job is wrong."
- "Isn't the family happy?"
- "Yes, he and his wife have a bad relationship and have separated." Xu Shengnan is a somewhat "perfectionist" actor, he believes that the story behind the role affects the direction of the stage, so he will always spend a lot of effort on the stage to study the characters, study the stories behind the characters. For Astor, studying his life state is the most important point in shaping the character, because the life situation directly affects the state of the character as a character in the play. If he had a good living environment, probably he would not have been so grumpy and narrow-minded in facing life and work. ”
Policeman Astor Hsu Sung-nam
Director Ruisha removed the lines about Astor's family in the rehearsal of the stage play in order to make the plot more focused; Xu Shengnan picked up the family factor in the performance in order to make the characters behave more reasonably. "It's like you're sitting in front of me and talking now, all I see is you now, but your status is determined by what happened to you before, and I believe that if you had a fight with your boyfriend before you came today, then what I see you is not the person you are now." Got it? (I understand, but I feel a little hurt...) )
Break & Build
In the creation of the stage play "Sinner", director Ruisha broke the original one-person + telephone monologue model and put the plot of the film that only existed in one phone after another on the stage. "The film is very realistic, and can advance the plot and express the characters through objective lens language. On the basis of retaining the objective plot, the stage play has established a psychological space on the stage, materializing the inner world and helping the audience understand the plot. ”
Directed by Ruisa
- "It's too hard to call"
- All the important plot advances in "Sinner" are completed on the phone, and Xu Shengnan, as the person to be called, is close to collapse in the first round of rehearsals. "If it were before the first round of performances, I would never say as much as I would today."
The collapse is real, and the lack of confidence is also real. As a very experienced actor on stage, Xu Shengnan did not believe that there were audiences willing to watch him call one after another in the theater, "Who would want to see me, just like watching a master in the communication room." Director Ruisha still remembers one day a week before the first round of performances, Xu Shengnan stood alone on the balcony of the rehearsal hall thinking about how to make a phone call. Before the premiere, the actors were in a relatively nervous state, and although they were nervous before meeting the audience for the first time, there were still expectations in their hearts. The teachers of the lighting, choreography and sound groups were very confident in the final presentation effect after seeing the synthetic stage, and the one-way mirror with the lighting split the stage into two spaces, perfectly presenting this "kidnapping of human nature" in the intersection of reality and imagination. The premiere was very successful, "probably because it was so unconfident, even a little bit disbelieving when seeing the audience's praise." ”
Stills from "The Sinner"
- "Why do we think we're right?"
- Why did you choose "Sinner" for stage adaptation, or a stage adaptation of hellish difficulty? Director Ruisha also admitted that this question has been asked to her since the first round of performances, "Our views on life, people, and everything are sometimes really one-sided and biased... Even the parties themselves will become suspicious and confused about the truth over time. "The Sinner" unabashedly points out the problem, tearing down the last piece of cloth we are trying to hide our humanity. ”
Say before the show
Director Ruisa: Compared with the first round, the third round of the performance is definitely more smooth, the tacit understanding between the actors is also higher, the audience's evaluation in the first two rounds of performances and some suggestions we have been accumulating, we will also make some details changes for these suggestions.
Lead actor Xu Shengnan: Astor is my most special role, and "Sinner" is also a suspense drama that can be watched repeatedly, often watching Changxin. My phone call is getting smoother and smoother, and the more I make it, the more I understand.
Editor: Look at "Sinner", after all, it is a miracle that the two Virgos have not blocked each other so far in this crew.
PS: "Look at a nice girl downstairs!" At the end of the conversation, director Ruisa's words made the topic that had gradually deviated even more difficult. Summer is coming, come to the drama center in the sweltering weather to watch a "sinner", in addition to the tense plot, perhaps "truth" and "judgment" are subjective "original sin".
