On November 27, the stage play "Sinner", adapted from the Danish secret room suspense film, premiered at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center.
The movie "Sinner" took only 13 days to shoot, a policeman, a telephone to take the audience into a complex brain-burning kidnapping scene, the phone is the only clue, the police officer needs to race against time to save the victim from danger, but he gradually realizes that the case he is dealing with is far more complicated than he thought. "The Sinner" is a successful one-man drama suspense film, starting from the alarm call received by police officer Astor, advancing the plot through one phone call after another, and the whole case is gradually presented to the audience through his imagination and psychological activities. In the film, Astor is in the office of the receiving center throughout the film, and this "secret room" performance method allows the audience to get key information from Astor's phone calls one after another, and piece together a complete picture of the case.
Director Ruisa did not limit herself to the one-man show mode of the film version in the process of creating the stage version, but instead displayed the important plots that existed in the film on the phone and imagined, leading the audience to enter the plot faster. "Stage plays do not have the blessing of the art of photography, there is no filling of close-up shots, and if the one-man show in the film is rigidly put on the stage, it will be a kind of torment for the audience and the actors." Ruisha hopes that "Sinner" will use the most streamlined stage to bring the audience the most thrilling journey to find the truth.
As a player of Astor, actor Xu Shengnan laughed and said that the performance in "Sinner" was the most challenging. "The phone call is one of the most important components of the Sinner stage." In Xu Shengnan's eyes, Astor is a person who believes in intuition and is very subjective. During the rehearsal process, he did not prematurely confine the role to a stylistic framework, but hoped to naturally form a unique acting style belonging to Astor, amplifying the character's personality characteristics.
How to handle this long call became the focus of the rehearsal. "The actors are on stage, the audience is offstage, and the presence of distance prevents the audience from grasping the subtle expressions or changes in the eyes of the actors as quickly as they did when watching a movie. I have to let the audience receive the emotional changes I convey offstage and make up for the lack of distance. ”
In the stage version of the "Sinner" adaptation, the fragmented information that originally existed only in the call must be skillfully and reasonably displayed in front of the audience to help the audience and the police officer Astor keep the information received synchronously. Stage design Tan Hua divides the stage into "real space" and "psychological space", uses the one-way mirror as a barrier between physical space, and divides the stage into two areas before and after, allowing the audience to accurately distinguish the information of "reality" and "imagination" of two different worlds.
As the plot deepens, the lighting gradually disrupts the boundaries between "reality" and "imagination" through a one-way mirror, representing ascester gradually and completely entering the "psychological space" of his imagination with the development of the case, and taking his subjective thoughts as reality. When the climax of the plot arrives, the "psychological space" gradually occupies the stage, and reality and imagination will become chaotic or even inseparable. Until the truth is revealed, everything returns to its original position, the "imaginary space" disappears, and Astor is still in the office of the police center.
