Wu Zuoren was born in 1908 in Suzhou on a scholarly site. When he was three years old, his father passed away, the family fell in the middle of the road, and the burden of life suddenly weighed on his mother.
After Wu Zuoren read for three years, his mother really let him stay at home to study due to financial tensions, and was taught by his brothers and sisters.
By chance, Wu Zuoren turned over a large box in his home. Open it to see that it was my grandfather's painting object. It turned out that Wu Zuoren's grandfather was a local painter. Since then, the paint in the box and the unused rice paper have become Wu Zuoren's favorites, which has aroused his interest in learning painting.
In 1927, Wu Zuoren was admitted to the Fine Arts Department of Shanghai University of the Arts. His homework was appreciated by the lecturer Xu Beihong. Xu Beihong admired Wu Zuoren's talent and often invited him to his home.
In 1928, Wu Zuoren came to the studio of Xu Beihong of the Art Department of Central University to study, and studied Western painting with his teacher.

Xiao Shufang was born in 1911 in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, in a scholarly mendi. His uncle, Xiao Youmei, was the political secretary of Sun Yat-sen and one of the founders of modern Chinese music. Father Xiao Bolin dedicated his life to the construction of China's railways.
Her sister, Siu Shu-hsien, is a famous music theorist; her younger sister, Siu Shu-hee, is an American biologist.
There are seven fairies in the family, and Xiao Shufang ranks fifth. She embarked on the path of painting, which is inseparable from the artistic atmosphere at home. In their spare time, the sisters followed their uncle to learn piano and music theory, and music, art, and literature became their favorites.
In addition, Shufang is passionate about skating and cycling, and won the championship in the first women's figure skating competition in North China.
Shufang's favorite is still painting, she claims that she paints what it looks like, her father fully supports her five girls, and invites famous teachers to cultivate her daughter, and also specially invited Qi Baishi Qi Bai lao to rule the seal for her daughter. In 1930, Wu Zuoren listened to the instructions of his teacher Xu Beihong and went to the École Supérieure des Arts in Paris to study. Later, he entered the Royal School of Art in Belgium and studied painting with the principal Bastian.

In 1946, Wu Zuoren heeded the call of his mentor Xu Beihong and went to Beiping To teach at the university, and held the first group exhibition of the Shanghai Art Writers Association.
At the exhibition, Wu Zuoren met a person who seemed to be familiar. After being introduced by a friend, it turned out to be Xiao Shufang, the little sister who he had never forgotten.
At this time, Wu Zuoren is no longer the small fresh meat that met a beautiful woman with a white eye and a glass heart. After a long time of reunion, he was ecstatic, and it seemed that a thousand words poured into his mouth, telling about the experiences and ups and downs of the years.
Shufang also has a few sorrows and can't move. She was the proud daughter of heaven, and after contracting peritonitis due to cecal surgery, she caused tuberculosis. Every day in the evening, the fever began to reach more than 40 degrees, until the early morning of a sweaty fever, every day for three years, Shufang became an old patient, even the famous doctors in Shanghai could not do anything.
Vulgar clouds, no filial piety in front of the bed for a long time. But as the days go by, the husband and wife are also facing great difficulties and flying separately. When Shufang was seriously ill, her husband actually got along with her and abandoned her.
In reality, Shufang has a new understanding of love and life, and it is inevitable that she will be discouraged.
In the 1940s, when tuberculosis was still a discolored era, people were retreating. But Wu Zuoren still resolutely listened to the voice of his heart, dared to throw an olive branch to Shufang, and boldly showed his heart-

Wu Zuoren not only composed lyrics, but also used his own profession, and specially painted many portraits for Shufang, including the widely circulated "Portrait of Xiao Shufang". Shufang in the painting, with a calm look and a smile, inadvertently exudes a calm and happy satisfaction with life.
Wu Zuoren confessed affectionately to Shufang, it is too late to love each other, and our days are one day less.
Shufang accepted the warmth and affection brought to her by Wu Zuoren, and in 1948, under the witness of her mentor Xu Beihong, the two were happily married.
On the painting "Double Ji Tu" donated to the two of them, Xu Shi wrote——
A hundred years of good time to rest is too late... It depends on the highest peak in the world.
That year, Wu Zuoren was 40 years old and Shufang was 37 years old.
Since then, Wu Zuoren, Shufang, Qinse harmonious, common interests, so that the two have a topic that can never be discussed, and together compose a half-lifelong love affair that is praised by people.
Some people commented that Wu Zuoren's paintings "fell on the wind and rain and painted like weeping ghosts and gods." His pen and ink have reached the state of divine enlightenment.
Throughout her life, Shufang loved to raise flowers and paint flowers, and had the elegant title of "God of Hundred Flowers" in the Chinese art world.
In Wu Zuoren, sick and bedridden until the six years before her death, Shufang had been taking good care of her, and she had never even picked up her beloved paintbrush.
Shufang confessed that for him, I was willing.
In 1997, Wu Zuoren completed the journey of his life, but Shufang did not cry, but picked up the paintbrush and turned the deep nostalgia in her heart into a painting to commemorate her beloved husband.
In 2005, Shufang also met up with her husband, Wu Zuoren.
