He is a talented man of the Republic of China, he is also a master of traditional Chinese studies, and he is also a master of Chinese comparative literature. He was Wu Mi.
<h1>Brilliant first half of life</h1>
The first half of Wu Mi's life cannot be described as brilliant. In 1894, he was born into a wealthy family in Shaanxi. His aunt was Zhou Ying, a famous female industrialist in the late Qing Dynasty at that time. His real name is Wu Yuheng, taken from the meaning of "Chen Xuanjie's Jade Heng" in the Book of Books. Wu Mi's name was given to him when he applied to Tsinghua University in 1910.
In 1916, Wu Mi successfully graduated from Tsinghua University. Out of his love of academics, he chose to study abroad. From 1917 to 1921, in just five years, he successfully obtained a graduate degree from Harvard University and became a well-known scholar of comparative literature. These days at Harvard University should be the time when Wu Mi's thoughts were most vigorous. During these days, he compared foreign literary works with domestic classics, especially his favorite Dream of the Red Chamber. He has written many appreciation papers on "Dream of the Red Chamber", most of which are from this period. He thus established himself as a master of red studies.
In 1921, he returned to China after completing his studies. Entrusted by Tsinghua University, he opened a course on "Comparative Studies of Chinese and Western Poetry", and the topic of comparative literature has thus entered the eyes of chinese students. Although Wu Mi has studied abroad for many years, he still attaches great importance to Chinese culture in his bones. "Only by finding out what is universally valid and eternal in the cultural tradition of the Chinese nation can we rebuild the self-esteem of our nation" To this end, he contacted several people in Sinology and founded the Tsinghua Institute of Sinology together, so that the idea of Sinology was deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
<h1>The tragic second half of his life</h1>
Wu Mi's lifelong pursuit of Sinology made him successful, but it also caused the tragedy of his fate. During the "special" period, Sinology came under fire. People who are too extreme in their thinking are bent on eliminating all traditional ideas. As a master of traditional Chinese studies, Wu Mi naturally did not stand idly by. Therefore, he resolutely stood up and publicized the benefits of Sinology. But at that time, his words were not only not taken into account, but they were put on the hat of the right and tortured.
At the age of 70, he was locked up, ordered to work and reformed, and even put on a high platform for public display. The mad people regarded him as an enemy, and the lack of water and food was not enough to calm the anger in his heart, and they still had to break his legs and torture him constantly. In this painful life, Wu Mi's body gradually deteriorated, until finally she could no longer take care of herself. Wu Mi died of illness in 1978.
<h1>Love and hate between father and daughter</h1>
After Wu Mi's death, people began to focus on his children. Wu Mi has a total of three emotional experiences in her life, but she has only had three daughters with the original. After Wu Mi divorced her original partner, the three daughters lived with their mothers. Regrettably, due to the lack of historical records, it is difficult to find the introduction and biography of two of them today. The only one recorded is one of her daughters, whose name is Wu Xuezhao.
Wu Xuezhao
When Wu Xuezhao was very young, Wu Mi divorced her original wife. This made Wu Xuezhao have no care for his father since he was a child, and he had to rely on his mother for his life. Fortunately, she inherited her father's excellent literary ability and was successfully admitted to Yenching University. After graduation, she successfully entered the state organs as a cadre.
During the special period, she was sent to Sichuan to work. But what is heart-wrenching is that although he has a lot of power, Wu Xuezhao does not have the slightest heart to save his father. Xu is resentful of her father's flower heart, and she not only did not help his father, but openly lectured him and drew a clear line with him. This move made Wu Mi heartbroken.
After a special period, she returned to Beijing. After Wu Mi's death, she compiled a series of precious works such as "Wu Mi's Diary" by sorting out her father's book relics. This may also be an act of forgiveness for her father.
Wu Mi's life was brilliant. His career success and literary achievements are unmatched. But he is also pathetic. Feelings are a vortex that he can't step out of in his life. Sacrificing everything for love ends up with nothing. Even her daughter hated herself for it. The misery of the second half of his life is not only the fault of the times, but also the result of his excessive indulgence. In this way, it is really regrettable and sighing!
