At 3:25 a.m. on May 11, 1974, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in Tuanjie and Mugang Townships at the junction of Daguan and Yongshan counties, with an epicenter intensity of IX. The earthquake killed 1,423 people, injured more than 2,000 people, collapsed more than 28,000 houses, blocked traffic for more than 20 days, damaged more than 500 hectares of water conservancy, and cultivated 40,000 acres. It is a large earthquake disaster in Yunnan Province.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake. Combined with the 16th "5.12" National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day, our county carried out a commemorative activity of "Remembering History and Cherishing Life" in Mujiao Town on May 11 to forge a solid people's defense line for disaster prevention, mitigation and relief. The heads of various departments directly under the county, townships and towns, and all teachers and students of Mupole Middle School participated in the event.
In the lecture hall of Mupole Middle School, a popular science lecture on "Popularizing Disaster Prevention Knowledge and Improving Risk Avoidance Ability" was first carried out. The lecture explained in simple terms from the aspects of earthquake and its hazards, how to deal with earthquake disasters, earthquake forecasting and earthquake early warning, earthquake early warning terminals and management and use, the responsibilities and tasks of "first responders", plan management and disaster collection and reporting, etc., so that everyone not only has a deeper understanding of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction knowledge, but more importantly, enhances the ability and confidence to deal with earthquake disasters.
After the lecture, popular science materials such as the "Earthquake Emergency Self-rescue and Mutual Rescue Manual" were distributed, and then the earthquake escape and avoidance drill was carried out.
At the end of the exercise, all the personnel stood up and observed a moment of silence for the compatriots who died in the "5.11" earthquake.

It is reported that since the 50th anniversary of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Daguan, our county has made full use of 200 sets of earthquake early warning information service terminals in the county to carry out earthquake escape and emergency rescue drills, and held a number of lectures on disaster prevention and mitigation knowledge, and has issued more than 4,000 popular science books on earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.
