But back in the day, it was a very different place. Xiang Mei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huayuan Lane Community, showed reporters the road of change of the community through two distinctive photos: one was taken at the end of 2019, with a scene of sewage flowing and low and crowded houses, and the other was taken at the beginning of 2022, showing a completely different appearance, with the harmonious coexistence of classical buildings and characteristic commercial shops, which is not only full of fireworks, but also shows a sense of fashion and trend.
How to complete the transformation in a short period of time? The answer lies in this alley, the only one in the country named after the "cultural context".
"The essence of Qionglai's 2,300-year history is condensed in the ancient city of Linqiong, and the cultural essence of the ancient city is concentrated in the unique cultural context lane. Xiang Mei told reporters that Wenmai Lane has a well-preserved Qing Dynasty street layout, a large courtyard that integrates Chinese and Western architectural styles, not only the remains of the "Ancient Tea Horse Road", but also brings together a variety of traditional crafts such as iron smelting, bamboo weaving, paper-cutting, etc., showing the rich and colorful folk customs and market life in western Sichuan.
However, in the process of urbanization, Wenmai Lane has also encountered many problems, such as: outdated blocks and buildings, which cannot meet the needs of modern urban functions and residents' living needs; the outflow of young people and the small scale of the city, which make business and culture lack innovation and vitality; the alleys are full of low-rise bungalows built in the 80s of the last century, with cramped space and serious erosion; and rainy areas in western Sichuan, and poor drainage in the alleys, which brings trouble to residents' life and travel.
Yan Yuande, a resident who has lived in the community for more than 70 years, has a deep experience: "In the past, the community used to use dry toilets, and the sewage in the toilets would flow to the streets when they were full, which was stinking and dirty, and it was really a torment to live here. ”
In order to balance the needs of historical and cultural protection and urban development, in 2019, the community officially launched the "Wenmai Lane Area Street Revitalization Project" based on Wenmai Lane, which radiates to the surrounding areas, to improve the quality of the area from the aspects of human settlements, urban functions, economic development, and industrial renewal, and to create a future community combined with organic renewal.

After two years of careful planning and construction, at the beginning of 2022, Wenmaifang was officially reborn. The project re-planned the drainage system to solve the problem of water accumulation in the rainy season, and through the introduction of designers to innovatively design the "Stacked Alleys Courtyard", the layout of six theme streets and alleys of the Mansion Hotel Area, the Historical and Humanistic District, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Zone, the Characteristic Famous Store Area, the Regional Folk Customs Area, and the Cultural and Historical Heritage Area, creating a new consumption space that integrates retro and fashion, culture and leisure.
In order to stimulate commercial vitality, Wenmaifang also accurately attracts investment with the positioning of "international style of big stores, and small stores near Qiongwei", attracting the coexistence of international brands and local characteristic stores. At present, 107 brands such as Starbucks and Wyndham Garden Hotel have settled in Wenmaifang, and the "Social Business and Residence Alliance" has been established to launch volunteer service points to exchange goods for residents and provide recruitment services for merchants.

"It is a bustling place on weekdays, and it attracts many domestic and foreign tourists on holidays. Chen Yong, who runs a coffee shop in Wenmaifang, is a native of Qionglai, who has changed from a resident to a businessman, he took the lead in opening a shop in this "reborn" land, and witnessed the transformation of Wenmaifang from the old to the new, his heart is full of joy and pride, "The transformation of Wenmai Lane is amazing, the streets are orderly and clean, the classical and modern buildings complement each other, and the environment of birds and flowers makes me feel very happy!"

Not only the local residents are pleased with the changes in Wenmaifang, but also the foreign tourists speak highly of it. "It's not just a miniature representation of Qionglai's market life, but also a unique cultural journey. Ms. Xu, a tourist from Chengdu, praised Wenmaifang: "I found a few exquisite intangible cultural heritage artworks in the market, which are not only exquisite, but also give this trip a different kind of meaning and fun. ”
It is reported that Wenmaifang will hold various cultural activities and festival celebrations in various festivals, which not only enriches the lives of residents, but also successfully shapes Wenfang Lane into a tourist hotspot, realizing the gorgeous transformation from an "old and broken small community" to an Internet celebrity "check-in place".
"We held a lantern festival during the Chinese New Year this year, and from February 10 to 24, we received an average of 70,000 tourists per day, driving consumption income of about 25.61 million yuan. In 2023, it will receive about 5 million tourists and drive consumption of about 120 million yuan in the area. Xiang Mei said.
"The 'Wenmai Lane Area Street Revitalization Project' is not only the renewal and upgrading of a courtyard and a block, but also an advancement of a lifestyle.
