The train departs from the Khorgos railway port in Xinjiang, China, passes through Kazakhstan, enters the Caspian Sea from the port of Aktau, disembarks from the port of Baku in Azerbaijan by sea, and then passes through Azerbaijan and Georgia by train, enters the Black Sea from the port of Poti in Georgia and loads cargo ships, passes through the Turkish Strait to the Mediterranean, and finally arrives in Salerno, Italy.
Liu Yang, deputy director of the 95306 freight logistics service center of the group company: This train adopts the rail-sea combined transport mode, and there is no regrouping in the middle. The transfer of goods between rail and sea is easier and the cost of transportation is lower than before. The opening of this line provides a new way for Chinese manufacturing to "go global", and also lays a solid foundation for promoting the normalization of transportation in the southern corridor of China-Europe trains.
According to the Caspian Sea and Black Sea shipping schedules, this train schedules the railway operation time, port operation time and port stay time of each section. After the train arrives at the port, it directly enters the port area, which improves the operation efficiency of the transit link, and saves more than half of the whole transportation time compared with sea transportation.
Li Xuanping, Director of the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Division of the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region: The first China-Europe rail-sea intermodal train from Urumqi, China, to Salerno, Italy, provided a guarantee for the stability of the international industrial chain and supply chain, and became a "stabilizer" and "accelerator" for trade between China and Europe and countries along the route.
In the first quarter of this year, a total of 4,541 China-Europe freight trains were opened, sending 493,000 TEUs of goods, an increase of 9% and 10% year-on-year respectively. As of the end of March 2024, more than 87,000 China-Europe freight trains have been operated, reaching 222 cities in 25 European countries.
