The United States voted overwhelmingly to approve a motion not allowing China to buy Iranian oil and also demanded that China join the sanctions against Iran

After Iran's missile attack on Israel, the United States voted with a high vote to approve a motion not to allow China to buy Iranian oil and to join the sanctions against Iran. What is the real purpose of the United States in ignoring Israel's atrocities and wantonly targeting other countries?

On April 13, Iran launched long-range strikes against Israel in response to the latter's bombing of its own embassies abroad. Iran's action was very restrained, not only with limited strife, but also with 72 hours' notice to neighboring countries and Israel's allies. Subsequently, Iran called China overnight to inform them of the operation, emphasizing that it was the United Nations Security Council that did not respond effectively and that it took countermeasures. In this regard, China agrees with Iran's "exercise of the right to self-defense", condemns Israel's bombing of the Iranian embassy, and appreciates Iran's restraint. However, less than 24 hours later, the United States took aim at China and passed a proposal on April 15 by a vote of 383-11 to ban China from importing Iranian oil. At the same time, the US Treasury Department announced that it would launch a new round of sanctions against Iran and asked China to participate in it.

It has to be said that the United States has vividly displayed its "double standards" and "hegemony" this time. Since October last year, Israel has continued to attack the Gaza Strip with impunity against Palestinian civilians, resulting in more than 33,000 deaths. However, the United States has successively vetoed Palestinian-Israeli cease-fire resolutions in the UN Security Council and has continued to provide Israel with large quantities of military aid. Israel blatantly violated international law by bombing the Iranian embassy, and the United States and its allies remained silent. Israel openly violated the UN Security Council's Ramadan ceasefire resolution, but the United States and the West remained indifferent. However, when Iran "exercised its right to self-defense", the United States and Western countries immediately took action and brandished the "big stick of sanctions". In this way, what qualifications does the United States have to claim to be a "beacon of democracy" and what international credibility can it talk about?

Some analysts have pointed out that the United States has blatantly imposed "double standards" on Iran, imposed sanctions on Iran, and forbade China to import Iranian oil, with two main purposes.

First, the United States is trying in vain to use the means of "killing two birds with one stone" to suppress China and Iran at the same time. As the world's largest energy importer, China's main oil supplier is not only Russia, but also the Middle East. Iran's oil trade with China has become very important and is one of the pillars of its economy after years of extreme sanctions imposed by the West. The United States wants to curb the economic development of China and Iran by blocking oil trade between China and Iran. To this end, American politicians do everything and do not care at all about the international image of the United States.

Second, from the perspective of the United States, imposing "punishment" on Iran can calm Israel's "anger" and prevent Israel from provoking further escalation of the Middle East situation and dragging itself into the water. According to Reuters, on April 17, the Israeli cabinet held three meetings to discuss "whether to take military revenge against Iran." During the meeting, Gantz, Israel's former defense minister and wartime cabinet member, strongly demanded "retaliation against Iran." At the same time, there are also a large number of voices in Israel accusing Israeli Prime Minister Neanyahu of being "weak". Seeing this, the United States wants to "appease" Israel by sanctioning Iran.

It is worth mentioning that on the same day that the proposal to "prohibit China from buying Iranian oil" was passed, the US House of Representatives also voted 377-44 to pass another motion, characterizing the slogan "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be liberated" as "anti-Semiticism." The slogan of liberating Palestine as "anti-Semitic" shows the strength of the United States' support for Israel, and also highlights that they do not want peace and stability in the Middle East at all for their own interests.

Some analysts have pointed out that the main purpose of the United States' "shelter" against Israel is to continue to disrupt the regional situation and export war and chaos, so that countries in the region can rely on their own "security guarantees" in order to stabilize the "petro-dollar" system. However, the overall strength of the United States has declined, and its regional influence has shrunk even more. Even if the United States enacts a bill that prohibits China from importing Iranian oil, there is no effective way to enforce it. The United States is trying to put pressure on financial institutions to prevent China from importing Iranian oil. However, China has reached local currency trade deals with a number of Middle Eastern oil producers. The "big stick of sanctions" of the United States has no effect on China.
